What's Covered on a Standard Washing Machine Fit

  • Fitting a newly delivered machine, including removing the transit bolts, connecting the hoses and running a test spin before we leave
  • Connecting to your existing cold water supply and waste point using a washing machine valve and either a standpipe or an under-sink trap
  • Wiring into an existing, suitable socket, checked for earthing and RCD protection by a qualified electrician
  • Levelling the machine on its feet and fitting anti-vibration pads where the flooring needs it
  • Removing and taking away your old washing machine as a registered waste carrier
  • A full test cycle and a walk-through of the controls before we pack up

Not Included / Costed Separately

  • New dedicated electrical circuits or consumer unit changes - our Part P electricians can price this separately while they're on site, but it's not part of a standard fit
  • Structural changes such as moving cabinetry or a stud wall to create space for the machine
  • Repairs to a machine still under manufacturer warranty - that needs to go through the retailer or manufacturer, not us
  • Fitting a dishwasher at the same time - that's booked and priced as its own job, see our dishwasher installation and repair page
  • Long new pipe runs from an existing supply - anything beyond around a metre gets priced once we've seen the room, it isn't part of the standard call-out price

What a “Simple” Washing Machine Swap Can Turn Into

Most washing machine jobs look like a five-minute swap right up until the old machine is pulled away from the wall. That's usually when the real problem shows up - a trap that's been weeping slowly into the base of the cabinet for months, a standpipe that was never fixed at the right height for the machine being ordered, or a socket on that wall that turns out to be sharing a circuit with an electric shower. None of that is visible with the old machine sitting in front of it, which is why a plumber and, where the wiring needs checking, a Part P registered electrician come to every fit, rather than leaving it to whoever happens to be free that morning. The water and waste connection is made by tradespeople qualified to NVQ Level 2 and City & Guilds standard,

and any electrical work is signed off with a proper safety certificate rather than a verbal “it's fine.” The old appliance leaves the house as waste handled under registered waste carrier status, so there's nothing extra to arrange or squeeze into the boot of a car. This isn't a new way of working for the business - it's been fitting kitchens and the appliances that go with them across Derby and Derbyshire for around two decades, and is a member of both CITB and FSB. A washing machine connection is only judged finished once it's properly plumbed, wired, levelled and run through a full spin - not just switched on and left to get on with it - which is why the fit carries a 5-year labour and installation guarantee, on top of the 2-year guarantee on the machine itself.

Where We Fit Washing Machines Across Derby and Derbyshire

The workshop is based at Sunny Hill in Derby, and most washing machine fits are booked in and around the city - Chaddesden, Allestree, Mickleover, Chellaston, Alvaston, Oakwood, Pear Tree and Normanton among them. The last two matter more than they sound: a lot of the Victorian terraces close to the workshop, in Pear Tree, Normanton and Rose Hill, had their kitchens extended at some point into what used to be an outside scullery or wash-house, and the cold feed and waste were added in wherever it was easiest at the time rather than to any set standard. On a job like that it's common to find a standpipe fixed too low or too high for a modern machine, a trap swapped years ago for whatever fitting was to hand, or an outside stopcock seized solid with limescale - none of which shows up until the old machine is disconnected.

Newer estates such as Chellaston, Boulton Moor and parts of Mickleover are usually more straightforward, since utility plumbing tends to be stubbed in during the build - though it's not unusual for that stub to sit at the wrong depth for the specific machine going in, which only becomes obvious once it's delivered. Beyond Derby, the same crew covers Chesterfield, Long Eaton, Belper, Ilkeston, Heanor, Alfreton, Swadlincote, Ripley, Duffield, Wirksworth and Dronfield, and further out to Matlock, Bakewell and Buxton, where a fair number of stone-built cottages have narrow, low-ceilinged utility spaces that need measuring against the doorway and worktop before a machine is ordered, not after it's turned up too wide to get through. Nottingham is also covered, usually where washing machine fitting is booked alongside wider kitchen work.
