Marble worktops are one of the most requested upgrades we handle, and also one of the easiest to get wrong if the stone isn't matched properly to how a kitchen actually gets used. Every slab we fit for a Derby kitchen is laser-templated on site once the cabinets are in, cut and edge-profiled at our own workshop, then jointed and hand-finished by our stonemasons rather than handed off to a separate fabricator partway through the job. If you're still weighing up materials, our full range of kitchen worktops page sets marble alongside granite, quartz and the other stone and solid-surface options we install.

Because marble is softer and more porous than granite or quartz, the fitting and sealing detail matters more than it does with most worktop materials -- get the joints, the sink cut-out and the initial seal right and a marble worktop will earn its keep for decades; get any of them wrong and you'll be fighting stains and hairline cracks within a year. That's the part we focus on, rather than treating the supply and the fitting as two separate jobs handled by two different companies.

  • On-site fitting, jointing and sealing before handover
  • Removal and legal disposal of your old worktops, as a registered waste carrier

Not Included / Costed Separately

  • Exotic or rare marble slabs priced above our standard colour range -- quoted separately once you've chosen a stone
  • Upstands, splashbacks or matching window sills, unless agreed at the quote stage
  • Disconnecting and reconnecting gas hobs or plumbed-in sinks -- carried out by our Gas Safe engineers and NVQ-qualified plumbers, priced as part of the wider kitchen fit if not already included
  • Ongoing re-sealing after the first year, which is down to the homeowner to keep on top of
  • Structural alterations to cabinetry needed to support the extra weight of a stone worktop

How We Price a Marble Worktop

We quote marble worktops as one inclusive price covering the slab, templating, fabrication and fitting, not a material cost with labour added on afterwards. What you're quoted after the free consultation is confirmed in writing before any cutting starts, so nothing gets added once the job is under way. Slab choice is the biggest single factor in the final figure -- a standard white or grey marble costs less than a heavily veined or imported colour -- followed by the length of run, the number of joints, how many sink and hob cut-outs are needed, and the edge profile you choose. Because every kitchen and every slab is different, an accurate figure needs a site visit or workshop consultation rather than a phone estimate.

Marble Compared With Granite and Quartz

Marble Granite Quartz
Look Soft veining, every slab unique Speckled/crystalline, every slab unique Consistent pattern, engineered
Heat resistance Good, but avoid putting hot pans straight down Very good, more heat-tolerant than marble Good, though the resin binder can scorch
Porosity Porous -- needs sealing around once a year Low porosity -- occasional sealing Non-porous -- no sealing needed
Everyday care Wipe spills fast, keep acidic liquids off it Wipe spills, less fussy than marble Wipe clean, the most forgiving of the three
Cost versus marble - Broadly similar, sometimes less Broadly similar, sometimes less

Stonemasons on Every Marble Job, Not a Subcontracted Fabricator

Stone and solid-surface worktops are one of our three specialist work areas, alongside bespoke cabinetry and spray finishing, and marble is fitted by the same stonemasons who cut and joint our granite, quartz and Corian worktops -- not handed to a separate fabricator once you've placed an order. We've been planning, supplying and fitting kitchens across Derby and Derbyshire for around 20 years, and every marble worktop we fit carries a 5-year guarantee on the installation and a 2-year guarantee on the worktop itself. Old units and offcuts are taken away and disposed of legally, since we're a registered waste carrier, and we're members of both CITB and the Federation of Small Businesses. If a job also needs a hob reconnected or new sockets wired in around the new worktop, that's covered by our own Gas Safe engineers and Part P registered electricians rather than a trade brought in separately.

Marble Worktops Fitted Across Derby and the Surrounding Area

Our workshop is on Stenson Rd in Sunny Hill, Derby, where every marble slab is cut, polished and hand-finished before it goes out to be fitted. From there we cover Derby and the surrounding Derbyshire towns -- Belper, Duffield, Ripley, Alfreton and Heanor closer to Derby, Chesterfield, Matlock, Wirksworth, Bakewell and Buxton out toward the Peak District, and Long Eaton, Ilkeston, Swadlincote and Dronfield to the south -- along with Nottingham and the wider Nottinghamshire area.
