If your worktops have seen better days but the cabinet carcasses underneath are still sound, a makeover lets you keep the structure that's fine and swap out everything that's making the room look dated. Our respray team can carry out a full colour change on the doors on site with our factory-grade spray finishing service rather than sending them away, which is usually the fastest route between a tired kitchen and a modern one without a full strip-out. Worn or chipped worktops don't always need full replacement either - our worktop repair and resurfacing team can often bring a stone or laminate surface back to a usable, presentable finish for less than a full re-fit.
For smaller kitchens where every centimetre of storage matters, our space-planning approach for compact kitchens looks at where taller wall units, new handles or a lighter worktop colour can make the room feel bigger before anything gets ripped out.
Where a Makeover Stops and a Full Renovation Starts
Not Included / Costed Separately
- Moving sinks, hobs or major pipework more than a short distance - that's re-plumbing work priced as part of a full renovation, not a makeover
- Knocking through walls, extending the room or changing the kitchen's footprint
- The cost of new appliances themselves - a makeover quote covers fitting and gas or electrical connection, not the appliance purchase
- Structural repairs to a failed cabinet carcass - if a unit's frame has rotted or given way (common under an old sink), it usually needs replacing rather than refacing, and we'll flag this at the design visit rather than after we've started
- A full rewire - our Part P registered electricians can add or move a limited number of sockets and lighting circuits within a makeover, but rewiring the whole kitchen is priced as separate work

One Accountable Team, Not a Chain of Separate Trades
Derby Kitchen Fitter started because too many local kitchen jobs were being pieced together from separate contractors who'd never worked together before, leaving the homeowner to chase whoever was responsible when a refaced door didn't sit flush or a respray chipped within the year. A makeover is exactly the kind of job that tends to get split like that elsewhere - one person swapping doors, someone else wiring the new under-cabinet lighting, another trade entirely for the tap - because most companies don't keep every one of those skills in-house. We do. Our joiners are bench-trained to City & Guilds standard, so replacement doors and drawer fronts sit flush without needing packing out; any new sockets or lighting added during the makeover are certified by a Part P registered electrician; and where a splashback needs making good before it's painted, that's done by a master plasterer rather than a quick skim coat over the top. The result is one team who planned the job answering for all of it, not four separate invoices and no clear line of responsibility if something needs adjusting later. It's also why we can put a written, itemised quote in front of you before work starts, and back the finished job with a 5-year labour guarantee and 2 years on products, as members of CITB and the FSB.
Kitchen Makeovers Across Derby and the Surrounding Areas
We work out of our Sunny Hill workshop on Stenson Rd, which puts most of Derby within a short drive for a design visit or a follow-up fix if anything needs adjusting after fitting. Beyond the city, we regularly carry out makeovers out to Chesterfield, Long Eaton, Belper, Ilkeston, Heanor, Alfreton, Swadlincote, Ripley, Matlock, Dronfield, Duffield, Wirksworth, Bakewell and Buxton, and into Nottingham. Derby's period terraces in areas like Allestree tend to have solid, well-built cabinet carcasses that are still good makeover candidates decades on, whereas some of the newer developments around Mickleover and Heatherton Village have flat-pack carcasses that don't always take a second round of fixings well - the design visit is where we check which situation applies to your kitchen before quoting.
