What A Worktop Repair Visit Covers
- Scratch removal from granite, quartz and solid surface worktops
- Chip and dent filling and resurfacing, colour-matched to blend with the surrounding surface
- Stain removal from both porous stone (marble, granite) and non-porous surfaces (quartz, solid surface) - wine, coffee, tea, oil and grease marks
- Sealing of porous worktops such as granite and marble to reduce future staining
- Re-finishing to a gloss or matte finish, plus polishing to bring back lustre that's dulled with use
- Etching repair on marble caused by acidic spills
- Burn and heat mark repair on solid surface worktops
- Colour-matching to your existing worktop pattern and finish so the repair isn't obvious

Not Included / Costed Separately
- Supplying and fitting a full replacement worktop - that's a separate service, see our worktop supply and installation page
- Structural repairs where the worktop has cracked right through or lost its underlying support - replacement is usually the safer route here, not repair
- Laminate worktops aren't listed among the materials we specialise in repairing - check with us before booking if that's what you have
- Where the damage is extensive enough that a repair would cost close to a new worktop, we'll say so at quote stage rather than take on a repair that won't hold
How A Worktop Repair Visit Works
- Tell us about the damage -- Call or send photos of the chip, crack, stain or scratch, along with the worktop material if you know it (granite, quartz, marble, solid surface or wood). That's usually enough for a rough idea of cost over the phone.
- Assessment and written quote -- For anything beyond a small scratch or chip, a technician looks at the worktop in person before confirming a price - stone repairs especially need judging close up, since the right filler and colour match depend on the exact pattern and finish of your surface.
- Repair carried out on-site -- Most repairs happen in your kitchen rather than off-site. Depending on the damage, that means sanding out scratches, filling chips and dents with colour-matched resin, drawing out stains, or repairing etching on marble.
- Sealing and finishing -- Porous materials - granite and marble in particular - are sealed after repair to protect against future staining. The finish is matched to the rest of the worktop, gloss or matte, so the repaired area doesn't stand out.
- Completion and aftercare advice -- Before leaving, the technician talks through day-to-day care for the repaired area - what to keep off it and roughly when it might need resealing again.
Repair Or Replace: Which Makes Sense For Your Worktop?
| Situation | Repair | Replacement |
|---|---|---|
| Small chips, scratches or a single stain | Usually the right call - often finished in a few hours at a fraction of the cost of a new worktop | Not needed unless you're changing the kitchen's look anyway |
| Large crack running through the worktop, or damage near a joint or support | May not hold long-term if the structure underneath is compromised | Recommended - we'll flag this at quote stage rather than take on a repair that won't last |
| Worktop is structurally sound but marked, dulled or stained | Sealing, re-finishing and polishing bring back the look for a fraction of replacement cost | Rarely worth it |
| You want a different material, colour or edge profile | Repair won't change the material or design | This is when a new worktop makes more sense |
Repairs Carried Out By The Same Trades Who Fit Stone Worktops In The First Place
Derby Kitchen Fitter's worktop repair work sits alongside its stone and solid-surface fitting work - the same team that laser-templates, cuts and joints granite, quartz, marble, Dekton, Corian and Minerva worktops also carries out repairs, so whoever's working on your surface understands how it was made and jointed, not just how to patch it. The business has been fitting kitchens across Derby and Derbyshire for around 20 years, and work carries a 5-year labour and installation guarantee alongside a 2-year guarantee on products. As a registered waste carrier, any offcuts or damaged material removed during a repair are taken away and disposed of legally rather than left for you to deal with. The company is a member of CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) and FSB (Federation of Small Businesses).
Where Worktop Repair Visits Are Carried Out
Most worktop repair call-outs are within Derby itself - recent jobs have covered stone worktops in Breadsall, Littleover and Allestree, plus a solid surface repair out at Chesterfield. Coverage matches the rest of the business, reaching Derbyshire towns including Long Eaton, Belper, Ilkeston and Ripley, and into Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. A repair is usually a single visit rather than a multi-day fit, so distance matters less than it would for a full kitchen installation - if you're not sure you're within reach, ask when you call.
