An integrated appliance only reads as “built-in” if three things line up at once: the appliance itself, the cabinet housing it sits inside, and whatever feeds it - water, waste, gas or a dedicated electrical circuit. Get one of those wrong and you're left with a dishwasher door that doesn't sit flush, a fridge that hums against the cabinet side, or a hob wired into a circuit that trips every time the oven's on too. We fit washing machines, dishwashers, fridges, ovens, hobs, wine coolers and extractors into new kitchens and into cabinetry we didn't originally build, either as a stand-alone visit or as part of a wider kitchen installation. If the appliance is going into a kitchen we're already fitting or refitting, our fitted kitchens page covers how appliance fitting slots into the wider project. Otherwise we can come out to fit or swap a single appliance in an existing kitchen, with the right trade booked in from the start rather than worked out on the day. Most enquiries fall into one of two groups: a like-for-like swap that takes an hour or two, or a replacement that changes size, fuel type or connection point and needs a joiner, plumber or electrician on site alongside whoever's fitting the appliance itself. Telling us which one you're dealing with when you call is most of what makes the visit run to time rather than overrun into a second trip.
Appliances We Fit, and What's Included Every Time
- Integrated washing machines, tumble dryers and washer-dryers, including door panel fitting and alignment
- Built-in dishwashers, connected to the existing water supply and waste
- Integrated fridges, freezers and fridge-freezer combination units
- Built-in single and double ovens, combination ovens and microwaves
- Integrated gas and electric hobs, plus extractor hoods and downdraft extraction
- Wine coolers and integrated coffee machines
- Disconnection and removal of the old appliance
- Door panel and fascia alignment, so the cabinet run still looks unbroken once the appliance is in
- Testing and demonstration before we leave - water fill and drain, door seals, ignition and controls as applicable
Not Included / Costed Separately
- Cabinet carcass alterations beyond minor packing or re-cutting an aperture - a joiner can usually do this on the same visit, but significant rework to the housing is priced separately
- Extending water, waste, gas or electrical runs beyond the existing connection point - quoted once we've seen the site
- Supply of the appliance itself, unless it's part of a kitchen we're already supplying - we also install appliances bought elsewhere, including from Howdens, Wren Kitchens, Magnet or premium German handleless suppliers
- Disposal of the old appliance - available as an add-on through our registered waste carrier licence, not automatic unless requested
- Same-day or emergency callouts - these can often be arranged but aren't part of the standard booking slot
From First Phone Call to a Tested, Working Appliance
- Get in touch -- Tell us the appliance type, and the brand/model if you have it, and whether it's gas or electric. That's usually enough for a starting price and a sense of which trade needs to be on site.
- Site check for anything non-standard -- For a straightforward swap - same footprint, same connections - we can often book straight in. For a new gas connection, a hob needing its own circuit, or a cabinet that needs altering, we'll arrange a site visit first so the quote is accurate rather than revised on the day.
- Booking -- We schedule the right trade for the job - joiner, plumber, electrician or Gas Safe engineer - so nobody's waiting on a second visit to finish it off.
- Fitting day -- The old appliance is disconnected and removed, the new one is fitted, connected and the door panel aligned, and any electrical or gas connection is made and certified on the spot.
- Testing and sign-off -- We run the appliance through its cycle or ignition before we leave, checking for leaks, correct drainage, secure fixing and that doors and controls operate properly, and talk you through anything appliance-specific before we go.
What a Straightforward Fit Costs - and What Changes the Price
As a guide, straightforward installations - swapping one integrated appliance for another of the same type, using the existing connection - typically start from around £75 to £95 depending on the appliance: dishwashers and washing machines at the lower end, gas hobs and built-in ovens usually a little more because of the connection and certification work involved. Cabinet alterations, extended pipework or wiring, a new circuit for a hob, and disposal of the old appliance are priced separately once we've had a proper look at what's involved. Two jobs that look identical from the front can involve very different amounts of work behind the cabinet door - a dishwasher going into a cabinet that's already plumbed is a different job to one going into a cupboard that's never had a water supply run to it, even though both look like "fit a dishwasher" on the phone. So we confirm the exact price in writing before booking anything in, and anything that can't be judged over the phone gets a site visit first rather than a price that changes once we're on site.
Fitted by a Trade Team vs a Big-Store Installation Slot
| What matters | Big-store or online retailer install | Our integrated appliance fitters |
|---|---|---|
| Gas hob or range cooker connection | Often refused, or a separate contractor has to be booked in | Gas Safe registered engineer connects and certifies it on the same visit |
| New circuit for an electric hob or oven | Rarely covered by a standard install slot | Part P registered electrician, with a proper safety certificate issued |
| Cabinet aperture doesn't quite fit | Installer leaves it as is, or won't take the job on | Joiner with a City & Guilds and bench-joinery background re-cuts or packs the housing there and then |
| Old appliance taken away | Frequently declined, or charged as an add-on | Removed by a registered waste carrier and disposed of legally |
| Guarantee on the work itself | Usually none once the appliance is unpacked | 5-year labour and installation guarantee, 2 years on the product |
Why 'Just Fit the Hob' Sometimes Turns Into More Work
Fitting an integrated appliance properly usually means solving two problems at once: making the appliance work, and making it disappear behind the cabinetry. A dishwasher door that's a couple of millimetres out will catch on the worktop or leave a gap next to the cabinet beside it. A washing machine's standpipe and trap need to sit at the right height, or you get slow draining and smells coming back up the waste. An induction hob usually needs its own dedicated circuit rather than sharing a ring main, which is why a job that sounds like "just fit the hob" can turn into rewiring work partway through - the existing circuit might be rated fine for an old resistance hob but not for an induction one drawing considerably more current. Our joiners, trained through City & Guilds with a bench-joinery background, handle the cabinet side - packing or re-cutting an aperture so the appliance sits flush rather than proud or recessed. Our plumbers, qualified to NVQ Level 2 and City & Guilds, take care of the water and waste connection. Where a gas hob or range cooker is going in, one of our Gas Safe registered engineers connects it, checks it and certifies it before we leave, and any new circuit is signed off by a Part P registered electrician who issues a proper safety certificate rather than a verbal "that's fine". Because all of that sits within one crew rather than a chain of subcontractors, a job that needs more than one trade doesn't mean a second booking, a second call-out charge, or a second person to track down if something needs adjusting afterwards.
Derby Suburbs and Derbyshire Towns We Fit Appliances In
We're based at the workshop on Stenson Rd in Sunny Hill, south Derby, and most of our integrated appliance fitting is within Derby itself, from Allestree and Mickleover through to Chellaston and Alvaston. The work varies with the housing stock as much as the postcode: Allestree and Mickleover are mostly 1960s-80s semis and detached houses where the kitchen usually already has a dedicated appliance run, while Alvaston and the streets closer to the city centre have more Victorian and Edwardian terraces, where a narrower kitchen often means re-planning where an appliance sits rather than a straight swap, and older wiring that needs checking before a new hob circuit goes in. Chellaston's newer estates tend to be the most straightforward, generally built with the water, waste and electrics for integrated appliances already allowed for. Further out, we cover Derbyshire towns including Chesterfield, Belper, Ilkeston, Long Eaton, Heanor and Alfreton, plus Matlock, Ripley and Nottingham - Belper in particular has a lot of former mill-worker terraces with narrow hallways and steep, tight staircases, worth mentioning when you book if a large appliance such as a fridge-freezer has to go up a flight of stairs or through a doorway that isn't standard width. If you're outside Derby itself, it's worth checking we're covering your postcode on the day you need, particularly for gas connections where we need to schedule a Gas Safe engineer in alongside the rest of the fitting.
Got Questions?
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to have an integrated appliance fitted?
Prices typically start from around £75 to £95 per appliance for a straightforward swap using the existing water, waste, gas or electrical connection - gas hobs and built-in ovens tend to sit at the higher end because of the connection and certification work involved. Anything involving cabinet alterations, new pipework or a new electrical circuit costs more, and we always confirm the exact price in writing before booking the job in.
Do you supply the appliance as well as fit it?
We can supply appliances as part of a wider kitchen project, and we're also an independent installation specialist for appliances bought elsewhere, including from Howdens, Wren Kitchens, Magnet and premium German handleless kitchen suppliers. If you've already bought the appliance, we're happy to just fit it.
Can you fit an appliance into a cabinet that wasn't originally designed for it?
In most cases, yes. Our joiners can re-cut or pack out an aperture so a different-sized appliance sits flush, though the exact work depends on the cabinet - if it needs anything beyond minor adjustment we'll quote that separately once we've seen it.
Is my old appliance taken away?
It can be - we're a registered waste carrier, so we can remove and dispose of the old appliance legally rather than leaving it for you to deal with. It's an add-on to the fitting price rather than automatic, so let us know when you book if you need it taking away.
Do integrated hobs and ovens need their own electrical circuit?
Often, yes - an induction hob in particular usually needs a dedicated circuit rather than running off an existing ring main. Any new circuit is fitted and certified by one of our Part P registered electricians, who issue a proper safety certificate for it.
Are you Gas Safe registered for gas hobs and range cookers?
Yes - gas hob and range cooker connections are carried out and certified by our Gas Safe registered engineers, on the same visit as the rest of the fitting wherever possible.
How long does fitting an integrated appliance take?
A straightforward single-appliance swap usually takes a couple of hours. Jobs needing cabinet work, a new circuit or a new gas connection take longer, and we'll give you a realistic time when we quote rather than a generic estimate.
What's covered by the guarantee?
The installation itself carries our 5-year labour and installation guarantee, and the appliance is covered for 2 years. If something we've fitted needs adjusting within that time, it's covered - the guarantee doesn't extend to appliance faults outside that 2-year period, which would be a manufacturer warranty matter.
Can you fit an American-style or plumbed fridge-freezer?
Yes - plumbed fridge-freezers with a water and ice dispenser need a dedicated water feed running to the appliance, which our plumbers can install as part of the fitting if it isn't already there. Because these units are usually larger and heavier than a standard integrated fridge, it's worth telling us the model and where it's going when you book, particularly if it has to go through a narrow doorway or up stairs to reach the kitchen.
What happens if you find a problem once the old appliance is out?
It happens more than you'd think - a standpipe that's corroded, a cabinet base that's swollen from a past leak, or wiring behind an old hob that isn't up to current standards. We'll stop, explain what we've found and what it would cost to put right, and get your go-ahead before doing any work beyond the original quote. It's rarely worth guessing at this in advance, which is why a site visit is worthwhile for anything other than a straightforward swap.
Get a Fixed Price for Your Integrated Appliance Fitting
A leaking washing machine connection or a fridge door slowly working loose from its hinge rarely gets better on its own, and the longer an ill-fitting appliance runs, the more likely it is to damage the cabinet around it or the flooring beneath it. Get in touch with your appliance details and we'll give you a starting price, and where the job needs a site visit first, get one booked in quickly, with the right trade already lined up rather than worked out after we arrive.
