Smart fridges, ovens and dishwashers only earn their keep once they're actually talking to your wifi, your phone and each other - and that's the part a straightforward appliance delivery rarely covers. Derby Kitchen Fitter installs and configures smart kitchen appliances across Derby and Derbyshire, pairing the trade skills a physical fit needs - electrics, gas and plumbing - with the network and app setup that decides whether the smart features actually work on day one.
What's Included in a Smart Appliance Installation
- Wifi signal testing and network assessment before any appliance goes in
- Physical fitting and electrical connection of smart ovens, hobs and range cookers, carried out by Part P registered electricians who issue the safety certificate
- Gas connection and commissioning of smart gas range cookers and hobs by Gas Safe registered engineers
- Smart fridge, dishwasher and washing machine or dryer installation, including the plumbing connections, by plumbers qualified to NVQ Level 2 and City & Guilds
- Manufacturer app setup and account configuration
- Integration with Alexa, Google Home and other voice assistants where the appliance supports it
- Getting multiple appliances and brands to work together rather than as separate isolated devices
- A demonstration and basic run-through before we leave
- Removal and legal disposal of your old appliance, as a registered waste carrier
- Follow-up troubleshooting support if a connection or app issue appears later

Not Included / Costed Separately
- New broadband contracts or router/mesh hardware - we test your existing signal and advise, but don't supply internet service or new networking kit
- Manufacturer app outages, account problems or firmware bugs, which sit with the manufacturer rather than the installer
- Consumer unit upgrades or rewiring beyond the circuit the appliance itself needs - quoted separately if we find this is required on site
- Appliances bought secondhand, imported, or without UK electrical/gas certification
- Ongoing manufacturer subscriptions or premium app features, which are billed by the appliance brand, not us
How We Install and Configure Your Smart Appliances
- Free consultation and assessment -- We talk through which appliances you're fitting, then check your home's wifi coverage and existing electrics or gas supply - by phone for a simple job, or with a site visit if the installation looks more involved.
- Written fixed-price quote -- You get an itemised quote covering the electrical or gas connection, network configuration and app setup, with no hidden extras added on the day.
- Installation day -- The right qualified trade for the job - Part P electrician, Gas Safe engineer or plumber - handles the physical connection, and we remove your old appliance for legal disposal as a registered waste carrier.
- Network and app configuration -- We connect the appliance to your home wifi, set up the manufacturer app, and link it to Alexa, Google Home or other voice assistants where that's part of the job.
- Testing, demonstration and sign-off -- We run through every function with you, issue any electrical or gas safety certificate the work requires, and confirm your guarantee paperwork before we leave.
- Ongoing support -- If a router change or software update knocks a connection out later, call and we'll talk it through or arrange a follow-up visit.

Why the Physical Connection Comes Before the App Setup
A smart oven or fridge is still a fixed electrical, gas or plumbed appliance underneath the wifi module, and that's the part a general appliance installer or delivery driver usually isn't qualified to touch. Any new circuit or socket a smart oven or hob needs is wired and certified by a Part P registered electrician, so you're not relying on an app pairing to cover for a connection that isn't actually safe. Where a smart range cooker or hob runs on gas, the connection and commissioning is carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer rather than left half-finished for someone else to sort out later. Plumbing connections for smart dishwashers, fridges, washing machines and dryers are handled by plumbers qualified to NVQ Level 2 and City & Guilds, so the appliance is plumbed in correctly before anyone opens the manufacturer app. Getting that physical fit right first is what makes the network and voice-assistant setup that follows actually reliable, rather than a smart appliance that's technically installed but never quite behaves.
Smart Appliance Installation Across Derby and Derbyshire
Our workshop is based at 573 Stenson Rd in Sunny Hill, Derby, and most installations across the city are straightforward same-day jobs from there. In Littleover, a lot of the 1930s semis have solid brick internal walls between the hallway and the kitchen, and that's exactly the kind of wall that can knock a wifi signal down to nothing by the time it reaches a smart oven or hob at the back of the house - one of the first things we check on site rather than assume. Chellaston's newer estates off Derby Road tend to have the opposite issue: open-plan kitchen-diners built onto the rear of the house, further from the router than the original floor plan ever accounted for, so a smart fridge or dishwasher there is often running on a weaker signal than the rest of the home. Mickleover has a similar mix of older semis and newer infill housing, and where a kitchen has been extended out, we'll often recommend repositioning a hub or repeater rather than assuming the existing router placement is good enough. Further out, Belper's stone-built terraces near the old mill sites have thicker original walls than a modern stud partition, which can noticeably weaken a signal, so we test properly instead of guessing. Ripley and Alfreton both sit on higher ground with a lot of older terraced and former colliery housing, where thick party walls and, in some homes, a router still positioned upstairs rather than near the kitchen are common reasons a smart appliance never quite connects reliably until someone checks it in person. If your postcode isn't mentioned elsewhere on this page, ask when you call - our coverage extends further than any list here can show.
