What's Included in Your Oven Installation or Repair

What's Included in Your Oven Installation or Repair

  • Built-in oven housing checks, cabinet measurement and fitting, whether it's a like-for-like swap or a different size unit
  • Electric oven installation with a check of your existing circuit, and fitting a dedicated 32-amp supply if what's there isn't adequate
  • Double oven fitting with cabinet reinforcement to carry the extra weight
  • Wall oven installation with proper wall bracket support and any cabinet modification needed to bring it to the right height
  • Gas oven and range cooker installation, pressure testing, leak checks and a Gas Safe certificate, carried out only by our Gas Safe registered engineers
  • Steam oven installation including the water supply and drainage connection, coordinated between our electricians and plumbers
  • Oven repairs covering thermostats, heating elements, door hinges, seals, glass and control panel faults across the major brands
  • Washing machine, tumble dryer and washer-dryer installation on the same visit if you need utility room work done alongside your oven
  • Removal and legal disposal of your old oven as a registered waste carrier

Not Included / Costed Separately

  • The cost of the new oven or appliance itself - our price covers installation or repair labour, fixings and certification, not the unit
  • Rewiring or full consumer unit replacement beyond the single dedicated circuit an oven needs, where an older property's electrics need more extensive upgrading first
  • Extending gas pipework to reach a new oven position - some period properties need this before a gas connection can be made, and it's priced separately once we've seen the run needed
  • Enlarging or rebuilding a cabinet opening where a new oven is a different size to the old one - we'll quote this once we've measured, rather than assume it's included
  • Repairing very old ovens where replacement parts are no longer manufactured - we'll tell you honestly when replacement is the more sensible option rather than charge for a repair that won't last

How We Handle an Oven Job From Call to Completion

  1. Call or request a quote -- Tell us what's wrong with your current oven, or what you'd like fitted - make, size and whether it's gas or electric. A straightforward like-for-like replacement can often be priced over the phone; anything involving electrical or cabinet changes gets a firmer quote once we've seen it.
  2. Site visit and check -- Our engineer measures the cabinet space, checks the existing electrical circuit or gas supply, and looks at the consumer unit if it's an electric installation. This is where we catch the things a quote can't predict - undersized cabinets, old wiring, gas pipework that needs extending.
  3. Fitting or repair -- For installations, the oven is fitted, connected and secured, with any dedicated circuit, wall support or cabinet reinforcement done at the same visit. For repairs, we diagnose the fault first - thermostat, element, hinge, seal or control panel - and only replace what's actually needed.
  4. Testing and certification -- Gas connections are pressure tested and leak checked before the oven is used, and our Gas Safe engineer leaves you the certificate. Electrical work is checked and, where new circuits are involved, our Part P registered electricians issue the paperwork.
  5. Clear-up and old oven removal -- Packaging is cleared and, if you're replacing rather than repairing, your old oven is taken away and disposed of legally - we're a registered waste carrier, so it isn't left for you to sort out.
  6. Handover -- We run through the new oven's basic operation with you and leave your guarantee paperwork - 5 years on the labour and installation, 2 years on the product itself.

How This Compares With a Retailer Install-Only Service or a General Handyman

What matters on the day Appliance retailer install-only service General handyman Derby Kitchen Fitter
Gas Safe registration for gas ovens and range cookers Not always included, often subcontracted Rarely qualified to connect gas Every gas connection carried out and certified by a Gas Safe registered engineer
Part P electrical safety certificate for new circuits Not usually issued Rarely issued Issued by our Part P registered electricians for any new wiring or circuit work
Old oven removed and disposed of legally Often a separate paid extra Not usually offered Included as standard - we're a registered waste carrier
Guarantee on the work itself Manufacturer appliance warranty only, no labour cover Informal, rarely in writing 5-year labour and installation guarantee, plus 2-year guarantee on products, in writing

The Difference Between an Appliance Fitter and a Kitchen Team

Most oven callouts are handled by a single engineer pricing the appliance on its own, working with whatever cabinet is already there. Ours are handled by a team that has spent 20 years building kitchen cabinetry across Derbyshire, so when a double oven housing needs reinforcing, or a wall oven bracket needs fixing into something stronger than plasterboard, it's done by joiners with City & Guilds bench-joinery training rather than left to whatever timber happens to be behind the door. That distinction matters more than people expect - a wall oven is heavier than it looks, and a housing built years ago for a single oven often can't take a second one without extra support first, something an appliance-only fitter has no reason to check. Gas hobs and range cookers are commissioned by our own Gas Safe engineers rather than passed to a subcontractor we've never met, so if anything needs adjusting after the certificate is issued, it's the same team that fitted it who comes back. As the team here puts it: "We only fit kitchens to the standard we'd want in our own homes - and we put that in writing before we start."

Where We Fit and Repair Ovens, From Derby to the Peak District

Most of our oven work is in Derby itself - from Victorian terraces around Pear Tree and Normanton, where the original wiring often needs a dedicated circuit adding before a modern electric oven can go in safely, to newer estates in Chellaston and Mickleover, where circuits are usually already sized correctly and the job is a quicker swap. We also cover the surrounding towns - Chesterfield, Long Eaton, Belper, Ilkeston, Heanor, Alfreton, Swadlincote, Ripley, Dronfield, Duffield and Wirksworth - and go further out into the Peak District around Matlock, Bakewell and Buxton, where mains gas doesn't reach every property and a "gas" range cooker sometimes needs to run on bottled or tank LPG instead; our Gas Safe engineers are qualified for both, so flag it when you book so we bring the right jets and fittings first time. We're out to Nottingham on a regular basis too. Wherever the job is, we work out of our own workshop on Stenson Road in Sunny Hill, Derby, which is where we keep the fixings and bracketry for less common cabinet sizes rather than having to order them in after a first visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Choose Derby Kitchen Fitter for Oven Installation?

We've been doing this since before every other company claimed to be "the best." Our reputation comes from satisfied customers, not fancy marketing. When Mrs. Patterson in Sunnyhill needed an integrated oven installation in her tiny kitchen, three other companies said it couldn't be done. We found a way.

How much does oven installation cost in Derby?

Oven installation cost varies by complexity. A straightforward replacement usually costs £100-150. New installations requiring electrical work cost £200-400 depending on what's needed. We provide free quotes so you know exactly what you're paying.

Do I need a gas engineer for oven installation?

For gas oven installation, yes - it's the law. Electric ovens can be installed by qualified electricians. We're both Gas Safe registered and qualified electricians, so we handle any type of oven installation.

What electrical requirements do electric ovens have?

Most modern electric ovens need 32 amps. Smaller single ovens under 3kW can use 13 amps. We check your existing supply and upgrade if necessary. Oven electrical requirements depend on the specific model you're installing.

Can built-in ovens be replaced without changing cabinets?

Usually yes, if you choose a standard size oven. Kitchen cabinets are built to standard dimensions, so replacing built in oven units is normally straightforward. Sometimes minor modifications are needed if your new oven is slightly different.

How long does oven installation typically take?

Most oven installations take 2-3 hours. Simple replacements might be quicker, complex installations with electrical work take longer. We give realistic time estimates when we quote.

What safety checks are required for gas oven installation?

Gas oven installation requires pressure testing, leak detection, and proper ventilation checks. We test everything twice and provide a Gas Safe certificate. The oven can't be used until all safety checks pass.

Can combination ovens be installed in standard oven spaces?

Most combination ovens fit standard spaces, but some need extra clearance for ventilation. We measure first and advise if any modifications are needed. Steam oven installation might need plumbing connections too.

What ventilation is needed for oven installation?

Built-in ovens need air circulation around them. The cabinet should have ventilation gaps top and bottom. Gas ovens might need additional room ventilation depending on your kitchen layout.

How are wall-mounted ovens properly supported?

Wall oven installation requires proper wall supports and cabinet reinforcement. The mounting brackets must be secure and level. We check wall construction and add support if needed.

What are the most common oven problems requiring repair?

Temperature control issues, faulty heating elements, door problems, and control panel failures are most common. Many problems look worse than they are - we often repair ovens that customers thought were finished.

How often should ovens be serviced or maintained?

Gas ovens should be checked annually as part of your gas safety inspection. Electric ovens don't need regular servicing but cleaning the oven cavity and checking door seals helps prevent problems.

Can old ovens be upgraded to more energy-efficient models?

Yes, modern ovens are much more efficient than older ones. The energy savings can be significant, especially if your current oven is over 10 years old. We help customers choose efficient replacements that fit their cooking needs.
