What's Included in a Kitchen Electrical Quote -- and What Isn't
- Rewiring old or undersized kitchen circuits to current wiring regulations
- Additional sockets, USB points and appliance-specific outlets positioned to suit the new layout
- Task, ambient, under-cabinet and smart lighting circuits
- Dedicated circuits for ovens, hobs, dishwashers and other fixed appliances
- Extractor fan wiring and consumer unit upgrades
- Full testing, Electrical Installation Certificates and Minor Works Certificates on completion

Not Included / Costed Separately
- The appliances themselves -- ovens, hobs and extractor units are wired and connected as part of the job, but priced separately unless supplied through us
- Making good and redecorating plaster where cable chases have been cut into walls -- this is scheduled as a separate stage with our own plastering team rather than folded into the electrical price
- Formal local authority building control inspection fees -- not needed where our Part P registered electricians self-certify the work, but these apply if a customer specifically wants council sign-off instead
- Upgrading the incoming mains supply or meter position, which is network operator (DNO) work sitting outside a standard kitchen rewire and would need its own separate quote if a survey shows it's required
Subcontracted Electrician or In-House Team: What It Actually Changes
| Separate subcontracted electrician | Derby Kitchen Fitter's in-house team | |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduling around the kitchen fit | Booked independently, can clash with the fitters' timeline | Scheduled by the same project plan as the rest of the installation |
| Certification | Depends on that individual's own registration | Issued directly by our Part P registered electricians |
| Accountability if something needs revisiting | Fitter and electrician can each point to the other | One team, one point of contact for the whole job |
| Guarantee | Varies electrician to electrician | Covered by our 5-year labour and installation guarantee |
What Two Decades of Opening Up Derby Kitchens Has Taught Us
On the electrical side of a kitchen refit, the same problem crops up again and again: an extractor fan wired onto a lighting circuit that trips every time the oven's on, or a socket positioned by whoever was cheapest to book rather than where the new layout actually needs it. Because our electricians work on site as part of the same crew as the joiners and plasterers, rather than as a separate subcontractor booked in around them, wiring decisions get made against the real kitchen plan instead of a floor sketch. It also means that when an old fuse box or a length of cloth-insulated cable turns up behind a cabinet -- which still happens regularly in Derby's older housing -- there's no wait for a callback: the same electrician already on site can look at it and quote

it there and then. That's the thinking behind the team's own line on the job: they only fit kitchens to the standard they'd want in their own homes, and put that in writing before work starts.

Rewiring Derby's Terraces and Derbyshire's Stone Cottages
Most of our kitchen electrical work is in and around Derby itself, and a fair share of that is in streets of Victorian and Edwardian terraces -- Pear Tree, Normanton, Rose Hill and Chester Green among them -- where the original wiring was never sized for a fridge-freezer, dishwasher, extractor and induction hob running off the same circuit. Houses in these areas were often last rewired in the 1960s or 70s, before RCD protection was standard, so a kitchen electrical job here regularly turns into a partial rewire once the old fuse box and cable runs are exposed. Further out, the housing stock changes again: Belper and Duffield's old mill workers' cottages and Wirksworth's stone-built terraces tend to have solid walls rather than cavity construction, which affects how cable routes are planned -- more often surface-run in conduit than chased into the brick.
We also cover Chesterfield, Long Eaton, Ilkeston, Heanor, Alfreton, Swadlincote, Ripley, Matlock, Dronfield, Bakewell, Buxton and into Nottingham, usually as part of a wider kitchen fit-out rather than an electrical-only visit.
