If your cabinets are still sound but the doors are chipped, faded or just look dated, replacing the doors is usually a quicker and cheaper fix than a full kitchen refit. New doors are fitted onto your existing carcasses by joiners trained to City & Guilds standard, so the finished run sits flush and square rather than looking like something bolted on afterwards.Where a standard size or profile won't match what's already on the wall - a period panel, an unusual shape, or a discontinued range - the team can also cut and make bespoke doors to match, so you're not paying to replace cabinets that don't need it.
What a Door-Only Quote Does and Doesn't Include
- Measuring your existing cabinet carcasses and ordering doors sized to fit them, including odd or non-standard openings that a supplier's standard range won't cover.
- Removing the old doors and hardware and taking them away, so the kitchen is left clear rather than piled with offcuts.
- Fitting the new doors, hinges and soft-close mechanisms, and adjusting each one until it sits flush and square against its neighbours.
- Fitting handles or knobs once the doors are hung, and setting them out evenly across the run.
- Packing out or easing back a cabinet edge that's slightly out of square - a minor on-the-day adjustment, as opposed to repairing a damaged or swollen carcass.

Not Included / Costed Separately
- The doors, hinges, handles and any glass inserts themselves - the £100-£350 per door labour figure covers fitting only, with doors and hardware priced and listed separately on your written quote.
- Repairs to the cabinet carcass behind the door - if a box unit is damaged, has swollen from water, or is the wrong size for a new door, that's priced once we've had a look rather than folded into a door-only job.
- Worktop, splashback or appliance changes - these can be added to the same visit if you want a wider refresh, but a standard door replacement doesn't touch them.
- Plumbing, gas or electrical alterations - moving a tap, hob or socket is carried out by our own NVQ-qualified plumbers, Gas Safe engineers or Part P electricians and quoted as an addition to the door work.
Door Replacement, Custom Joinery or a Full Refit, Compared
| Door-only replacement | Custom-made doors | Full kitchen refit | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical cost | £100-£350 labour per door, plus the doors themselves | Part of a £1,000-£5,000 project, priced per door for design and joinery | Considerably more once cabinets, worktops and appliances are all replaced |
| Timescale | 1-2 days once the doors are on site | 3-4 weeks from order to fitting, as each door is made to measure | Typically several weeks, depending on how much is being replaced |
| What stays the same | Cabinet carcasses, worktops and kitchen layout | Cabinet carcasses and layout - doors are made to match them | Nothing has to - layout and cabinets can change too |
| Best suited to | Sound cabinets and a quick style change | Non-standard sizes, period doors or an exact match to existing joinery | Units that are worn out, damaged, or a layout that no longer works |
Joinery Backed by the Trades a Kitchen Actually Needs
Doors are a joinery job first, and ours are cut and hung by joiners with City & Guilds training and a bench-joinery background, not fitters working from a flat-pack instruction sheet. That matters most on the jobs that go wrong for other people - matching a period panel profile, packing out an old cabinet that's slightly out of square, or getting a soft-close mechanism to sit right in a frame it wasn't designed for. The team has fitted kitchens across Derbyshire for 20 years and works as an independent installation specialist for major supply-only ranges including Howdens, Wren Kitchens, Magnet and premium German handleless systems, so a like-for-like door match is usually possible even when the original supplier has discontinued the range or can't help.

Door Fitting Across Derby and the Surrounding Towns
The team works out of the Sunny Hill workshop in Derby and fits doors in kitchens right across the city, from older terraces around Normanton and Pear Tree to newer builds in Chellaston and Oakwood, before covering the wider county. Regular jobs also take in Chesterfield, Long Eaton, Belper, Ilkeston, Heanor, Alfreton, Swadlincote, Ripley, Dronfield, Duffield and Nottingham, along with Matlock, Bakewell and Buxton on the Peak District edge, where older stone-built kitchens are more likely to need a door made to a non-standard size than an off-the-shelf fit. Wirksworth's hillside terraces can mean tighter parking for the joinery van, which is factored in when a visit there is booked.
