A new worktop is usually the single biggest visual change you can make to a kitchen without moving a wall, and it's also one of the less forgiving jobs to get wrong — a slab templated before the units are properly fixed, or a joint that isn't bonded flat, is hard to put right after the event. We survey the room in person, template only once your base units are level and in their final position, and have the stone or solid surface cut and fitted by stonemasons rather than a general fitter, so a run of granite or quartz reads as one continuous surface rather than two pieces meeting at a seam.

Every West Bridgford job is quoted in writing before any cutting starts, with a 5-year guarantee on the installation and a 2-year guarantee on the material itself, and your old worktop is taken away under our registered waste carrier status as part of the price, not left for you to arrange separately.

What a West Bridgford Worktop Fit Covers — and What It Doesn't

  • A laser template taken only once your base units are fixed and level, so the fabricator cuts from the real room rather than a drawing
  • Granite, marble, quartz, quartzite, limestone and solid-surface worktops supplied and fitted, jointed by stonemasons rather than a general fitter
  • Cut-outs for sink, hob and drainer, with undermount sink fitting where the material allows and full sealing around every join
  • Edge finishing to match the rest of the kitchen, from a plain pencil round to a bullnose, bevel, ogee or a waterfall drop where the surface wraps down to floor level
  • Mitred, bonded joints on any run too long for a single slab, polished by hand once fixed in place
  • Removal and legal disposal of your old worktop, covered by our registered waste carrier status

Not Included / Costed Separately

  • Structural work such as removing or moving a supporting wall to open up the kitchen — this needs its own building regulations sign-off and isn't part of a worktop quote
  • Upgrading the electrics or gas pipework beyond the final hob or socket connection — that's carried out separately by our Part P electricians or Gas Safe engineers and priced on its own
  • Strengthening or replacing base units that can't safely carry the weight of natural stone — this is flagged at template stage if it applies, and quoted as an extra rather than assumed
  • An exact vein or pattern match across every joint on natural stone — granite and marble vary from block to block, so you'll see a shift in pattern at a join; that's normal, not a defect
  • Replacing sound cabinet carcasses — a worktop-only job assumes the units underneath are structurally fine; if they're not, that's a separate conversation and quote

From Design Visit to Fitting Day: How a West Bridgford Worktop Job Actually Runs

  1. Design visit and written quote -- One in-person visit covers it: we talk through material, roughly how many linear metres you need and your budget, look at the room itself, and put together an itemised written quote before you commit to anything — no separate phone-screening step before we'll come out.
  2. Getting the base units ready -- A laser template can only be taken once your base units are fixed, level and in their final position, so if that work isn't finished yet, we hold the template date rather than measure to a floor plan. Templating too early is the single most common cause of a worktop that doesn't sit flush, so this step gets checked properly rather than assumed.
  3. Laser template and workshop cutting -- Once the units are confirmed ready, we take the laser template and the slab goes to the workshop, where stonemasons cut it, profile the edges and make the sink and hob cut-outs, preparing any joints so they'll bond seamlessly on site.
  4. Fitting day -- The worktop is lifted in, joints bonded and polished, sink and hob sealed, and your old worktop taken away for legal disposal — usually all in a single visit.
  5. Sign-off and guarantee paperwork -- A walk-through to check the finish and every joint, with your written 5-year installation and 2-year material guarantee handed over there and then.

Granite, Quartz and Marble Worktop Prices for a West Bridgford Kitchen

Price is driven mainly by material choice and how many linear metres you need: engineered quartz and solid surface generally sit at the more affordable end compared with less common granite colours or book-matched marble, where the cost comes from the raw slab rather than the fitting itself. Extra cut-outs, a waterfall edge that wraps down to floor level, or a run that needs more than one joint all add labour on top of the base material cost. Access matters too — a slab that has to be carried through a narrow hallway on an older West Bridgford terrace, rather than lifted straight in from a drive, can add time to the fitting day. None of this can be priced accurately over the phone; a full quote depends on a site visit to measure the room, check access and confirm the material, and that quote is put in writing before any work is booked.

Granite, Quartz, Marble or Solid Surface: How the Materials Compare

Material Heat and scratch resistance Everyday care Typical fabrication lead time
Granite Excellent — hard natural stone, very resistant to heat and scoring Occasional resealing keeps it stain-resistant; otherwise low maintenance 12-18 days, including quarry selection and cutting
Quartz (engineered) Very good — non-porous surface resists heat marks and staining without sealing Wipe clean; no sealing required 8-12 days for most standard runs
Marble Good heat resistance but softer and more porous than granite — can mark from acidic spills like lemon or wine Needs regular sealing and prompt wiping of spills 12-18 days
Solid surface Moderate — can mark from direct high heat, though light marks can usually be sanded out Very low maintenance, with seamless joins and no grout lines 8-12 days

Fitting Stone Worktops on West Bridgford's Terraces and Newer Estates

West Bridgford's mix of Edwardian terraces around Musters Road and Melton Road and later semis further out toward Compton Acres means access is rarely straightforward — a heavy quartz or granite slab often has to come through a narrow hallway rather than off a drive, so we walk the route on the design visit and plan the lift before installation day, not on the morning itself. That kind of planning sits alongside the same guarantee we put in writing on every job: five years on the installation, two years on the material itself. The joints themselves are cut and bonded by stonemasons rather than a general kitchen fitter, which is the difference between a run of granite reading as one continuous surface and two slabs pushed together. Once the old worktop comes out, it's taken away under our registered waste carrier status rather than left for you to arrange separately, and the business is also a member of both CITB and the Federation of Small Businesses — trade bodies that reflect a properly structured company rather than one fitter working alone.

Worktop Fitting Across West Bridgford and the South Side of the Trent

West Bridgford is our primary base for worktop installation on this side of the Trent, from the Edwardian terraces around Musters Road and Melton Road to the later estates toward Compton Acres and Silverdale. A good number of the older terraced houses here have no rear vehicle access, so a heavy stone slab has to be carried through the house rather than round the back — something we check on the design visit so it's planned for rather than discovered on installation day. We also cover Lady Bay and Wilford immediately across the river, and the wider run back toward Nottingham and out to Derby and the Derbyshire towns we've worked across for around twenty years, including Long Eaton and Ilkeston on the way.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my new worktop look exactly like the sample or photo I chose?

Close, but not identical, if you choose a natural stone like granite or marble - every slab is cut from its own block, so veining and colour vary from one piece to the next, and a small shift at any joint is normal rather than a fault. Engineered quartz and solid-surface materials are manufactured to a consistent pattern, so the sample is a much closer match to what arrives on the day. On natural stone jobs we'll show you the actual slab, or a current batch sample, before fabrication, so there are no surprises at installation.

How long does the whole job take once the template's been done?

Fabrication is the longest part - typically 8-12 days for quartz or solid surface, and 12-18 days for granite or marble, since natural stone involves selecting and cutting the actual slab rather than pulling from stock. Installation itself is normally a single day, though a long run with several joints or a waterfall edge can run into a second.

Can I still use my kitchen between the template visit and installation day?

Yes - your existing worktop stays in place and usable right up until installation day itself, since the template is taken with it still fitted. The kitchen is only out of action, and best cleared of anything on the worktops, for the day the old one comes out and the new one goes in.

Can you template before my base units are finished, to save time?

No, and this is worth being upfront about - templating to a floor plan or to units that aren't yet level risks a slab that doesn't sit flush, which is far more disruptive to fix once it's cut than a short wait for the units to be finished properly. We'd rather hold the template date by a few days than fit a worktop we're not confident in.

Will you fit a worktop onto units that someone else supplied or installed?

Yes, provided the units are sound and level. We check this at the template visit - if the carcasses aren't strong enough to carry the weight of natural stone, we'll flag it and quote for any reinforcement needed as a separate item, rather than assume it and find out on installation day.

What if the stone slab arrives with a flaw or doesn't match what I saw in the showroom?

On natural stone jobs we show you the actual slab, or a current batch sample from the same block, before it goes to fabrication, precisely so this doesn't happen after the fact. If a genuine flaw shows up once it's cut, it's replaced before installation rather than fitted and left as your problem.

What's not included in a worktop quote?

Structural changes such as removing a wall, upgrading electrics or gas beyond the final hob or socket connection, and strengthening cabinets that can't take the weight of stone are all outside a standard worktop quote and priced separately if they apply. We'd rather flag these at the design visit than add them as surprises on the invoice.

Do I have to choose natural stone, or can I have quartz or solid surface instead?

Either - most West Bridgford jobs go one way or the other depending on budget and how much low-maintenance you want day to day. Quartz and solid surface don't need sealing and resist staining without upkeep, while granite and marble give you a natural pattern that no engineered material fully replicates. We'll talk through both honestly at the design visit rather than steer you toward whichever is easiest to fit.
