If your hob won't light, an induction ring won't heat, or you're fitting a new gas, electric or induction hob into an existing worktop, our engineers handle the connection, testing and certification in one visit. Gas hobs are connected, pressure-tested and purged by engineers on the Gas Safe Register; electric and induction hobs go onto a dedicated circuit wired and signed off by a Part P registered electrician, with an induction hob tested against your own pans before we leave so you're not caught out by cookware that won't heat. Worktop cut-outs are templated and cut to fit laminate, solid timber, granite, quartz or Corian, and the old hob is taken away for legal disposal as part of the visit - handy if you're timing the swap alongside other worktop work.

Faults get the same attention as new fitting: ignition problems, a burner that won't stay lit, a failed element or a control board that's stopped responding are diagnosed on the van where possible, with common parts carried so a repair can often be finished on the same visit. If a hob genuinely can't be brought back, we'll say so rather than keep charging for return trips - that's the basis of the no-fix-no-fee approach we apply on every repair call-out across Derby and the surrounding towns.

What a Hob Call-Out Covers, Job by Job

  • Removal and legal disposal of the old hob, as a registered waste carrier
  • Worktop cut-out templated and cut to the correct size for laminate, solid timber, granite, quartz or Corian
  • Gas connection with an isolation valve fitted, the pipework pressure-tested and purged, and every burner tested individually, carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers
  • Electrical connection to a dedicated circuit for electric and induction hobs, wired and certified by Part P registered electricians
  • Testing an induction hob with your own pans before we leave, so you know it works with the cookware you already own
  • Gas safety certificate or electrical safety certificate handed over as proof the job was done correctly
  • Diagnosis and repair of ignition faults, failed elements, control board issues and faulty knobs, with common parts carried on the van

  • A no-fix-no-fee approach to repairs - if we can't put it right, you don't pay for the call-out

Not Included / Costed Separately

  • Running new copper gas pipework beyond a standard connection, which is priced once we've seen the existing supply
  • A new 32-amp circuit or consumer unit work for an induction hob upgrade on older 13-amp wiring, charged as additional electrical work
  • Specialist diamond cutting for granite, quartz or other natural stone worktops, which takes longer and is costed on site
  • Supplying a new extractor hood or ventilation system - we'll flag it if your current extraction doesn't meet current rates, but fitting one is a separate job
  • The same-day emergency call-out surcharge that applies outside a standard booked appointment
  • Replacing cookware for induction compatibility, since induction only heats magnetic pans

From Your Phone Call to a Certified, Working Hob

  1. Tell us the problem or the plan -- Describe the hob type - gas, electric, induction or ceramic - and whether it's a repair or a new fit. We'll give an initial price guide over the phone and offer a same-day slot if one's free.
  2. Check the supply and the worktop -- Before any cutting starts, we check your existing gas pipework or electrical circuit, the worktop material, and the clearances against Building Regulations.
  3. Template and cut -- We measure and template the cut-out rather than eyeballing it. Stone worktops are cut with water-cooled diamond blades and proper dust extraction; laminate and timber use portable site tools.
  4. Connect and test -- Gas hobs are fitted with an isolation valve, pressure-tested, purged and each burner flame-tested. Electric and induction hobs are wired to a dedicated circuit and tested with your own pans.
  5. Certify and hand over -- You get a gas safety certificate or electrical certificate, the old hob is taken away for legal disposal, and we walk you through the controls before we leave.

Gas, Electric, Induction and Range Hobs Compared

Hob type Heat control Cookware needed Typical lifespan
Gas Instant, easy to judge by eye Any pan 15-20 years on quality brands, 10-15 on budget models
Electric (solid plate or ceramic) Slower to respond, heats via the element under the glass Any flat-based pan 8-12 years - the surface and elements are usually what fails first
Induction Fast and precise, surface stays cool to the touch Magnetic pans only 10-15 years, though it's still a newer technology
Range cooker (gas or electric) Depends on the fuel type fitted Depends on the fuel type fitted 20+ years on quality brands like Rangemaster and AGA

Gas Safe and Part P Registered, Working Out of Our Own Derby Workshop

A hob is one job where you shouldn't have to take anyone's word for it. Gas connections legally have to be carried out by an engineer on the Gas Safe Register, and a new dedicated circuit for an electric or induction hob has to be signed off by someone Part P registered - ask to see the registration before anyone touches your supply, and our engineers will show it to you without being asked twice. We work out of our own workshop on Stenson Road in Sunny Hill rather than a rotating list of subcontractors, so the same people who template your worktop cut-out are the ones who come back if anything needs adjusting afterwards. Two decades fitting kitchens across Derby and out to Belper, Ilkeston and Chesterfield means we've reconnected hobs on gas runs and wiring from every era of housing stock in the area - 1930s semis around Sunny Hill and Alvaston with older pipework long since replaced, through to new-build kitchens on the edge of the city - so an odd cooker point or an undersized circuit rarely slows the job down.

Hob Installations and Repairs Across Derby and the Surrounding Towns

Most of our hob call-outs are in Derby itself - Allestree, Mickleover, Chaddesden, Littleover and the Sunny Hill area around our Stenson Road workshop - alongside regular trips out to Belper, Ilkeston, Heanor, Alfreton, Chesterfield, Long Eaton, Swadlincote, Ripley, Duffield, Dronfield and Wirksworth, and over the county line into Nottingham. The housing type matters more than the postcode for this job: Victorian terraces around Rowditch and Normanton often have older, narrower gas runs that are worth checking before a new range cooker goes in, while newer estates on the edges of Mickleover and Oakwood are more likely to be on a single 13-amp cooker circuit that needs upgrading before an induction hob can go in. Out towards Matlock, Bakewell and Wirksworth, some rural properties run on LPG rather than mains gas, which changes the regulator and fitting needed - let us know on the phone if you're off the gas grid and we'll bring the right parts first time.
