Not Included / Costed Separately

  • Structural alterations to cabinets or walls beyond standard support battens - quoted separately if your existing units need rebuilding to carry the weight of stone
  • Moving plumbing or electrics beyond reconnecting to the new surface, arranged through our NVQ-qualified plumbers and Part P registered electricians as part of the same project rather than included as standard
  • Disconnecting and reconnecting a gas hob or range cooker, only ever carried out by our Gas Safe registered engineers
  • Listed building or conservation area consent, where it applies - we can tell you if it's needed, but making the application itself isn't part of our quote

Comparing Worktop Materials for a Derby Kitchen

Material Heat & Scratch Resistance Maintenance Best Suited To
Granite Excellent heat resistance, naturally scratch resistant Annual sealing recommended Keen cooks and period properties wanting a natural stone finish
Quartz Good heat resistance, very scratch resistant Non-porous, no sealing needed, wipes clean Busy family kitchens needing low upkeep
Dekton, Corian, Minerva High heat and impact resistance Non-porous solid surface, occasional buffing Handleless and seamless designs, integrated sinks and drainer grooves
Solid wood Moderate - needs trivets and a cutting board Periodic oiling, can be sanded and refinished Homeowners wanting a natural, renewable surface
Laminate Good with care, keep away from direct heat Wipe clean, no sealing required Budget upgrades and rental properties

One Crew, Start to Finish: The Trades Behind Every Derby Worktop Fit

Not every set of kitchen cabinets sits at the same worktop height or depth, even when they look alike from the showroom floor. Howdens, Wren Kitchens and Magnet carcasses each set their support rails and packers slightly differently, and on a supply-only fit - where we're measuring cabinets we didn't install ourselves - that's exactly where a rushed template can go wrong. We check rail height and packer position at every templating visit before a slab is cut, because a few millimetres out at that stage is enough to open a gap at a mason's mitre joint that no amount of clamping fixes afterwards. Once a template is confirmed, the slab is cut, edge-profiled and jointed at our workshop on Stenson Rd in Sunny Hill rather than in your kitchen, so cut-outs for sinks and hobs arrive already finished and polished instead of being dressed on site.\n\nBecause the same crew that measures your worktop also employs its own plumbers qualified to NVQ Level 2 and City & Guilds and its own Part P registered electricians, reconnecting a sink or socket after the new surface goes in doesn't mean waiting on a subcontractor to become free - and if you're swapping a gas hob or range cooker at the same time, that's handled by our own Gas Safe registered engineers rather than passed along to whoever's available. Every fit carries a 5-year guarantee on the installation and a 2-year guarantee on the materials, both put in writing before work starts, and any worktop we take out leaves the site through our registered waste carrier licence rather than being left for you to deal with. We're CITB and FSB members, and because we install supply-only worktops onto cabinets from Howdens, Wren Kitchens and Magnet as well as our own bespoke kitchens, you don't need to have bought your kitchen from us to get the same standard of fit.

Derby Worktop Fitting, With Trips Out to the Peak District and the Notts Border

Most of our worktop jobs are in Derby itself, from Chaddesden and Allestree through to Mickleover and Sunny Hill, with regular work in Chesterfield, Long Eaton, Belper, Ilkeston, Heanor, Alfreton, Swadlincote, Ripley, Dronfield, Duffield and Wirksworth, plus jobs into Nottingham. Every quote follows a site visit rather than a set of photos, because access shapes a stone worktop fit as much as the kitchen layout does: a granite or Dekton slab for a farmhouse near Matlock, Bakewell or Buxton often has to be carried in from the van in sections, down a narrow lane or a flight of external steps, and we plan the joint positions around that route before the slab is ever cut. A driveway delivery to a Derby estate kitchen rarely needs the same planning, which is one of the reasons the site visit happens before we quote, not after.
