Fitted cabinetry only earns its keep if it's cut to the room it's actually going into rather than adapted from a catalogue size. Every cabinet, island or run of alcove storage that comes out of our Derby workshop is measured, built and finished for the space it's going into, then fitted by the same joiners who made it - not handed to a separate fitter who's never seen the drawings. If the same kitchen needs new worktops sat on top of the new cabinets, our stone and solid-surface worktop team template and fit granite, quartz and Corian as a linked stage, and where existing carcasses just need a new face rather than a full rebuild, our spray finishing service can respray doors in situ for a fraction of the cost of replacing them.

Derby and the towns around it have no shortage of period cottages, 1930s semis and loft conversions with sloped ceilings, where a standard modular kitchen leaves gaps that get hidden behind filler panels rather than actually fitted. That's the kind of layout bespoke cabinetry and fitted furniture is built to solve, whether it's a full kitchen, a fitted wardrobe, or awkward under-stairs storage that off-the-shelf units were never designed for.

The Build Breakdown: Cabinetry And Fitted Storage, And What Sits Outside It

  • Free design visit with CAD layout options, covering cabinet sizing, door style and finish before anything is ordered
  • Manufacture of cabinets in the Derby workshop, from Shaker-style solid wood doors to handleless and high-gloss finishes
  • Full installation - removal of old units, level fitting on uneven floors, fixing to any wall type, and every door, drawer and shelf hung and adjusted
  • Kitchen islands, pantry units, breakfast bars, appliance housing and utility room storage, built and fitted as part of the same project
  • Door and drawer-front replacement on existing cabinet carcasses, for kitchens that don't need a full rebuild
  • Built-in and fitted furniture for awkward layouts - alcoves, under-stairs space, sloping ceilings and period-property walls that aren't square

Not Included / Costed Separately

  • Stone and solid-surface worktops (granite, quartz, Dekton, Corian) - these are laser-templated and quoted as a separate stage, not part of the cabinet price
  • Plumbing, electrical and gas connections for sinks, hobs and lighting - carried out by our own qualified plumbers, Part P electricians and Gas Safe engineers, but scheduled and priced as their own line items
  • Structural work or plastering to walls and ceilings ahead of fitting - our master plasterers can price this once they've seen the site
  • The appliances themselves (ovens, hobs, dishwashers) unless you've asked us to source them as part of the design

From The First Measurement To The Last Adjusted Hinge

  1. Design visit -- A member of the team measures the space and talks through how you actually use it, then works up CAD layout options covering cabinet sizing, door style and finish.
  2. Written itemised quote -- A fixed price broken down by item, agreed before any material is ordered or cut, so there are no surprise extras once work starts.
  3. Workshop manufacture -- Your cabinets are cut, assembled and finished at our Derby workshop, whether that's hand-finished Shaker doors, a handleless system or a colour-matched respray.
  4. Project-managed fit -- Installers, and any other trade the job needs - plumbing, electrics, plastering - are scheduled and supervised as one team, so nobody has to chase separate contractors.
  5. Sign-off and guarantees -- A walk-through check of every door, drawer and soft-close mechanism, with the 5-year installation guarantee and 2-year product guarantee confirmed in writing.

Made By The Joiners Who Fit It

Derby Kitchen Fitter started because too many homeowners were being let down by mismatched contractors, vanishing quotes and finishes that didn't survive their first winter, so the company built its own crew instead - designers, planners and every trade a kitchen needs, working under one roof from the first measurement to the final adjustment rather than a chain of separate subcontractors. The joinery and cabinetmaking itself is carried out by joiners with formal City & Guilds training and a bench-joinery background, not general fitters working from a flat-pack, and the finished job carries a 5-year labour and installation guarantee alongside a 2-year guarantee on products, agreed in writing before work starts. The team is also an independent installation specialist for major supply-only brands - Howdens, Wren Kitchens, Magnet and premium German handleless systems - so the same crew can fit a bought-in kitchen or build cabinets from scratch, without you needing to know in advance which route suits your space. Old units and offcuts are cleared under a registered waste carrier licence rather than left for you to skip, and the company is a member of both CITB and the Federation of Small Businesses.

Fitting Cabinetry From The Stenson Road Workshop Out Across Derbyshire

The workshop is on Stenson Road in Sunny Hill, on the south-west side of Derby, and most jobs start with a measure-up from there. A good share of the enquiries closer to the city centre come from streets in Normanton and Pear Tree, where Victorian terraces have a narrow galley kitchen tacked onto the back of the house - walls that were never built square, doorways too tight for a full-size carcass to go through in one piece, and chimney breasts that eat into what would otherwise be a run of units. Those are exactly the constraints made-to-measure cabinetry is built to work around, rather than papering over with filler panels.

Outside Derby the same crew covers Chesterfield, Long Eaton, Belper, Ilkeston, Heanor, Alfreton, Swadlincote, Ripley, Matlock, Dronfield, Duffield, Wirksworth, Bakewell, Buxton and into Nottingham. Belper and Wirksworth both still have a lot of stone-built terraces from their mill and quarrying days, with thick external walls and lower ceiling heights than a modern semi, which changes where extraction ducting and downlights can run above fitted units. Further out towards Matlock, Bakewell and Buxton that same stone-cottage pattern shows up again in older village properties, so a design visit there usually spends more time checking wall thickness and floor level before anything is quoted. Wherever the site is, cabinets are still built at the Stenson Road workshop and brought out fully finished rather than assembled on site from flat-pack.
