A tight budget doesn't have to mean a kitchen that looks like it. Most of the value in a kitchen makeover comes from getting the door style, worktop finish and hardware right, not from replacing every cabinet carcass, which is where the bulk of a full refit's cost sits. Derby Kitchen Fitter has been planning and fitting kitchens across Derby and Derbyshire for around two decades, and the same qualified joiners, plumbers and electricians who fit a full remodel are the ones doing the door swap, respray or worktop overlay on a budget project - so cutting cost doesn't mean cutting corners on how it's put together.
What a Budget Kitchen Makeover Covers
- Cabinet door and drawer front replacement, made to measure to fit your existing carcasses
- Cabinet refacing with new veneer for solid wooden units that are structurally sound
- Laminate, composite, overlay or edge-banding worktop options fitted over or in place of existing worktops
- Handle, hinge and drawer slide replacement
- Professional cabinet respray or repaint using kitchen-grade paint
- Free home design visit with CAD-based layout options
- Advice on strategic appliance upgrades, including ex-display and end-of-line units
- Supply of ready-to-assemble units and doors for customers handling some of the fitting themselves
Not Included / Costed Separately
- Moving the position of your sink, hob or major appliances - this needs new plumbing and electrical runs and pushes a budget project toward full-remodel pricing
- Structural work such as knocking through walls or altering the room's footprint
- Gas hob or range cooker connection and commissioning, which by law has to be carried out and certified by a Gas Safe registered engineer rather than self-fitted
- Electrical connection for new sockets or lighting circuits, which needs a Part P registered electrician to issue a safety certificate
- The 5-year installation guarantee on any element you choose to fit yourself under the DIY-supply option - it covers work carried out by our own team
From First Visit to Finished Kitchen
- Free home visit -- A designer visits your home anywhere in Derby or Derbyshire to look at your existing cabinets, worktop and layout, and talk through which budget route - door replacement, respray, worktop overlay or a mix - suits your kitchen and your budget.
- Written itemised quote -- You get a quote broken down by item (doors, worktop, hardware, any appliance work) with no hidden extras, so you can see where the money is going before agreeing to anything.
- Materials ordered, trades scheduled -- Doors, worktop and hardware are ordered in before work starts. If the job needs a plumber, Gas Safe engineer or Part P electrician for any connection work, they're booked in alongside the joiners so the project runs to the agreed timeline.
- The fit -- Old doors and worktops are removed, new ones fitted, cabinets resprayed or refaced, and hardware swapped over - typically 1-2 days for a door replacement or respray, 3-7 days for a fuller makeover with new worktops and appliances.
- Sign-off and clean-up -- A final walkthrough checks everything against the quote, your written guarantee is handed over, and old units, packaging and offcuts are taken away for legal disposal by our registered waste carrier.

Qualified Trades, Not Just a Cheaper Price
A lot of what keeps a budget kitchen project affordable is not needing to touch plumbing, gas or electrics - but on the jobs where you do (a new hob, an extra socket, a repositioned light), that work is still carried out by qualified people: plumbing connections by plumbers qualified to NVQ Level 2 and City & Guilds standard, gas hob and range fitting by Gas Safe registered engineers, and lighting or power work by Part P registered electricians who issue a full safety certificate. Door and cabinet joinery is handled by joiners with formal City & Guilds training and a bench-joinery background, which matters on refacing and made-to-measure door work where a few millimetres out shows immediately. Every budget makeover carries the same 5-year labour and installation guarantee and 2-year product guarantee as a full kitchen fit, the team has been doing this across Derbyshire for around two decades, and as a registered waste carrier they take old units and offcuts away legally rather than leaving you to sort them. The business is also a member of CITB and the FSB.
Working Across Derby and Derbyshire
Derby is home turf - the workshop is based on Stenson Rd in Sunny Hill, which keeps travel time down for home visits across the city and into surrounding Derbyshire towns including Chesterfield, Long Eaton, Heanor, Alfreton, Matlock, Dronfield, Wirksworth, Bakewell and Buxton, plus over the county line into Nottingham. Being based locally rather than dispatching from a national call centre means the same team that measures your kitchen on the first visit is the one back on site for the fit and the final sign-off.
