What a Wrap Job Covers, and Where It Stops
- Cabinet doors, drawer fronts and visible end panels stripped, cleaned and re-covered in architectural-grade vinyl
- Kitchen islands, peninsula sides and open shelving units wrapped to match the rest of the run
- Wood-grain, solid colour or textured finishes, including custom colour matching where a specific shade is needed
- Compatible appliance panels wrapped alongside the cabinetry where the fascia allows it, for a coordinated look
- Removal, surface preparation, heat application and reinstallation carried out by the same crew that measured the job
Not Included / Costed Separately
- Worktops are not vinyl wrapped - a damaged or wrong-colour worktop needs a separate stone or solid-surface quote
- Layout changes - moving units, adding an island, altering a wall run - are a replacement job, not something a wrap can achieve
- Cabinet boxes with water damage or swollen chipboard, since the vinyl only ever looks as good as the surface underneath it
- New appliances, plumbing or electrical work, which stay separate jobs even when scheduled alongside a wrap
- Heavily curved or ornately profiled period doors, where heat-forming vinyl around the detail may not hold - this gets checked on-site before any quote is given
How We Take You From First Call to a Finished Kitchen
- Free assessment -- We look at the cabinet boxes, door profiles and layout in person, and talk through your budget and how long you can be without a working kitchen.
- Honest recommendation and written quote -- You get a plain answer on whether the existing cabinets are solid enough to wrap or whether replacement is the better route, backed by an itemised quote with no hidden extras.
- Scheduling -- Wrap jobs are booked into a single block, typically 1-2 weeks. Replacements are scheduled so joiners, plumbers, electricians and plasterers are lined up in the right order rather than waiting on each other.
- The work itself -- For a wrap, doors and panels are removed, cleaned, cut and heat-applied before being refitted and adjusted. For a replacement, old units come out and new cabinetry, worktops and services go in under one project-managed team.
- Sign-off and guarantee -- A final walk-through confirms everything is right, the written guarantee is handed over, and old units and offcuts are removed as a registered waste carrier.

The Same Crew, Whichever Way This Decision Goes
Before any recommendation is made, the team at Derby Kitchen Fitter put something in writing that shapes how the wrap-or-replace call gets decided: "We only fit kitchens to the standard we'd want in our own homes - and we put that in writing before we start." In practice that means the assessment isn't weighted toward the bigger job - where the cabinet boxes are sound, wrapping is what gets recommended, even though a full replacement is worth more on paper.
If wrapping genuinely isn't the answer for your kitchen, nothing about a replacement gets handed off to outside contractors to finish. The cabinetry itself is built by joiners with a City & Guilds background in bench joinery, sink and appliance connections are made by plumbers holding NVQ Level 2, and any new lighting or power circuit is certified by a Part P registered electrician before it's switched on. Gas hobs and range cookers are commissioned by Gas Safe registered engineers, and the plastering left behind once old units come out is finished by tradespeople who've spent decades doing exactly that kind of make-good work. Alongside the in-house trades, we're also a recognised independent installer for supply-only ranges including Howdens, Wren Kitchens, Magnet and premium German handleless systems, so a replacement doesn't lock you into one manufacturer's kitchens.
The business holds membership with CITB and FSB, and everything that comes out of a kitchen - old doors from a wrap, full carcasses from a replacement - leaves the property as a registered waste carrier rather than being left for you to arrange a skip for. None of that changes which option gets recommended; it just means whichever one suits your kitchen, the people carrying it out are qualified to.
Covering Derby and the Surrounding Towns
We're based at the workshop on Stenson Rd in Sunny Hill, Derby, which keeps most wrap and replacement jobs within around a 20-mile drive - useful specifically for a wrap, since doors are taken back to the workshop to be stripped, cleaned and heat-applied rather than finished on-site, so a shorter round trip means less time your kitchen is out of action. Long Eaton is a regular call (Claire's kitchen, mentioned above, was wrapped there), and we see the same cabinet-condition question come up a lot in Wirksworth, Belper and Duffield, where a fair number of older properties still have their original 1980s or 90s carcasses - often solid enough underneath to wrap rather than replace, which is exactly the judgement call this page is about. Further out toward Matlock and Bakewell, and into Chesterfield and Alfreton, the work itself doesn't change but scheduling allows for the extra travel time on both ends of the job. We also reach Ilkeston, Heanor, Ripley, Swadlincote, Dronfield and Buxton, plus into Nottingham - wherever you're based in that area, whether wrapping or full replacement is the right call comes down to what's actually on your cabinets, not the postcode.
Common Questions on Choosing Between Wrapping and Replacing
Will vinyl wrapping work on solid wood or only on laminate doors?
It works on most flat and moderately profiled doors, whether they're laminate, veneer or solid timber, as long as the surface is sound and clean enough to bond to. Heavily carved or very ornate period doors are the exception - the vinyl can struggle to hold around tight detail, so we check the actual doors on-site before quoting rather than assuming.
What happens if a wrapped door gets damaged later on?
Small scuffs are usually fine and clean off, but a deeper scratch, burn or impact typically means that one door needs re-wrapping rather than a touch-up repair. We'd re-cut and re-apply vinyl to the affected door or panel - it doesn't mean redoing the whole kitchen, though very slight colour variation between an older wrap and a freshly applied one is possible after several years.
Do you do both vinyl wrapping and full kitchen replacement, or would we need two companies?
We do both under the same team, alongside bespoke cabinetry, worktop fitting and spray finishing. That's largely why we're able to give an honest recommendation rather than one weighted toward whichever job we happen to offer - if wrapping suits your kitchen better, that's what we say.
If we go for a full replacement, what happens to our old units?
We remove them as part of the job and dispose of them legally - we're a registered waste carrier, so there's no need to arrange separate skip hire or removal for the old kitchen.
How long does a professionally applied vinyl wrap actually last?
Realistically 10-15 years with normal use, though edges around heavily used doors (bin cupboards, the door nearest the hob) can start to lift before the rest of the kitchen does. Areas with a lot of steam or grease need wiping down regularly to keep the adhesion sound.
Can wrapped doors be fitted around integrated appliances without affecting the seal?
Yes, where the appliance fascia allows it - the panel is measured and wrapped to the same tolerances as the original, and hinges or handles are refitted and adjusted afterwards. Not every integrated appliance panel is suitable, which is something we check at the assessment stage rather than after the vinyl's been cut.
