Because the same team fits granite, quartz and other stone worktops indoors every week, that experience carries straight into the garden - the granite worktops and quartz worktops we template and fit for outdoor kitchens are cut, sealed and jointed to the same standard as an indoor run, just specified for exposure to rain and frost rather than a warm kitchen.
What's Covered in Your Outdoor Kitchen Quote - and What Isn't
Not Included / Costed Separately
- Local authority planning application fees for conservation areas, listed buildings or oversized structures - we prepare and handle the paperwork, but any council fee itself isn't part of our quote
- Upgrading the mains gas or electricity supply into the property - our work extends from your existing house supply, not from the street
- Non-kitchen garden landscaping such as new patios, decking or fencing, unless it's ordered as part of the same project
- Appliance servicing and replacement parts once the manufacturer's own appliance warranty has run out (separate from our own installation guarantee)
- Loose outdoor furniture, sofas and accessories - our scope is the built structure, cooking area, storage and any utilities, not the furnishings around it

The Qualified Trades Behind Every Outdoor Build
Design and material choice matter, but outdoors it's the trades doing the physical work that decide whether a build stays sound once Derby's clay ground starts moving with the weather - swelling in wet spells and shrinking back in dry ones, which is exactly what cracks a badly-prepared patio or hairline-fractures a rendered brick structure within a couple of years. Our joiners have City & Guilds training and a bench-joinery background, which is what weatherproofed carcasses and marine-grade cabinetry actually need to avoid warping. Any gas hob, BBQ or pizza oven connection is fitted and commissioned by a Gas Safe registered engineer, water and drainage runs are carried out by plumbers qualified to NVQ Level 2 and City & Guilds, and outdoor power and lighting circuits are wired by Part P registered electricians who issue a full safety certificate for the work. Brick or rendered structures are built by master plasterers with decades of hands-on site experience, and any old patio, decking or units we clear away go through our registered waste carrier licence for proper disposal. The finished build carries a 5-year labour and installation guarantee and a 2-year guarantee on products, put in writing before work starts, and the company is a member of both CITB and FSB.
Where We Build: Derby Gardens and the Ground Conditions We Plan Around
We're based at the workshop on Stenson Rd in Sunny Hill, and a good share of the gardens we build in are close by - Mickleover, Littleover, Chellaston, Oakwood, Chaddesden and Allestree account for a lot of our outdoor kitchen work, alongside the older streets around Normanton and Pear Tree nearer the city centre. Access is usually the first thing checked on the free site visit, before the design conversation even starts. A lot of the Victorian and Edwardian terraces around Normanton, Pear Tree and Rose Hill have only a narrow side passage into the back garden, sometimes barely wide enough for a wheelbarrow, so block, stone and heavy appliances often have to be hand-carried through the house or passed over a garden wall rather than delivered straight to the plot - that changes both the timescale and the build sequence. Newer estates further out, such as Oakwood, Chellaston and parts of Mickleover, tend to have a rear driveway or a side gate wide enough for a small dumper or a materials pallet, which speeds the groundwork stage up considerably. The other thing we plan for before any foundation goes in is the ground itself: much of Derby and the wider Trent Valley sits on heavy clay subsoil, which swells when it's wet and shrinks back in dry spells. Left unaddressed, that movement is what cracks patio slabs and hairline-fractures rendered brick structures within a couple of winters, so any permanent build gets a proper sub-base, land drain or soakaway specified for that particular garden rather than a standard concrete pad. We also cover Chesterfield, Long Eaton, Belper, Ilkeston, Heanor, Alfreton, Swadlincote, Ripley, Matlock, Dronfield, Duffield, Wirksworth, Bakewell, Buxton and into Nottingham - the same access and drainage checks apply wherever the garden is.
