Wall Paneling Installation Derby

Wall paneling turns a kitchen wall from a maintenance headache into one of the easiest surfaces in the room to keep clean - and behind that simple idea sits a job that depends on decent carpentry, careful sealing and a finish that survives daily cooking, not just picking a panel from a brochure. The team at Derby Kitchen Fitter has been fitting kitchens and kitchen joinery across Derby and the surrounding towns for around two decades, so we've handled panels behind hobs that still look new after years of steam and splashes, and we've also seen cheaper installs fail at the seams within a winter.
If you're planning wall paneling alongside new units, worktops or a wider kitchen refit, our joiners can plan it in as one job rather than a separate contractor working around your new cabinets afterwards - one team measuring, fitting and finishing everything from the first visit to the final trim.
Panels, Prep and Trims: What's Included
- A home visit to measure the walls, bring panel samples and talk through PVC, MDF, wood or decorative options
- Preparation of the existing wall, including removing old coverings or checking that existing tiles are sound enough to panel over
- Panels cut to size on site around sockets, pipes, worktops and awkward corners
- Sealed joints and edges in splash zones, plus matching trims, corner pieces and finishing rails
- Coordination with any other trades on site if the paneling is part of a wider kitchen fit
- A full clean-up and a walk-through of the finished panels before we leave
Not Included / Costed Separately
- Moving or adding sockets and switches behind the panels - that's electrical work, priced and carried out separately by our Part P registered electricians, who issue the safety certificate
- Stripping out tiles that aren't sound enough to panel over, which adds removal and disposal time to the quote
- Repairs to damp or unsound plaster and masonry found once old coverings come off - we'll flag this and price it before continuing, not after
- Paneling outside the kitchen itself, such as bathroom or utility wall panels, which we quote as a separate job
Panel Materials Side by Side
| Material | Waterproofing | Best Used For | Cost Installed (per m²) |
|---|---|---|---|
| PVC waterproof panels | 100% waterproof with sealed joints | Splashbacks and walls behind sinks or hobs | £50-£120 |
| MDF panel systems | Water-resistant when sealed, not for constantly wet areas | Feature walls, dining areas, painted finishes | £60-£150 |
| Solid wood paneling | Needs sealing and periodic re-treatment in damp spots | Feature walls and period properties wanting a natural finish | £100-£250 |
The Trades Behind Every Panel We Fit
Wall paneling looks like a simple job until the wall behind it turns out to be uneven, damp, or hiding pipework - which describes a lot of Derby's older housing stock once the old tiling or covering comes off. That's the real reason we send joiners rather than a general fitter: ours have formal City & Guilds training and a bench-joinery background, so a panel gets scribed and cut to sit against an out-of-true wall properly, rather than packed out with sealant and hoped for. If a socket needs moving to clear the new panel line, that work is handed to a Part P registered electrician who signs it off with a proper safety certificate, not squeezed in by whoever's free that day. Once fitted, the panels themselves are backed by our 5-year labour and installation guarantee alongside a 2-year guarantee on the product, and because we're a registered waste carrier, the old boards, tiles and offcuts leave with us rather than sitting in a skip on your drive. None of that is a badge on the side of the van for its own sake - our CITB and FSB membership is part of what keeps a paneling job run this way, with the right trade doing the right part of it, rather than treated as a quick side job by a single fitter.
Where We Fit Wall Paneling Around Derby
Our workshop is based on Stenson Road in Sunny Hill, Derby, and most of our wall paneling jobs are within a short drive of there - Derby itself, plus Chester Green, Strutt's Park, Mickleover and Littleover, where we've already fitted paneling to suit Victorian terraces and 1930s semis. Further out we cover the Derbyshire towns around Derby including Ilkeston, Heanor, Ripley, Long Eaton, Sandiacre, Belper, Duffield, Alfreton, Swadlincote, Chesterfield, Dronfield and Wirksworth, plus Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Older stone and brick properties out toward Matlock, Bakewell and Buxton often have less predictable wall surfaces than newer Derby estates, so we'll always check what's behind the plaster during the home visit rather than quote blind over the phone.
Guarantees, Trades and Waste - A Few More Questions
Is the wall paneling installation guaranteed?
Yes. Every wall paneling job carries our 5-year labour and installation guarantee, and the panels themselves come with a 2-year product guarantee. If a joint fails or a panel lifts within that period because of the installation rather than accidental damage, we come back and put it right.
Will I need an electrician if there are sockets or a light switch behind the panels?
If sockets need moving, extending or re-siting to fit around the new panels, that work is carried out by one of our Part P registered electricians, who issue a proper safety certificate for the work - it isn't something left to a general fitter. We'll flag this during the home visit so it's priced into your quote up front rather than appearing as a surprise once work starts.
What happens to my old tiles and leftover material?
We're a registered waste carrier, so any tiles, boards or offcuts we remove are taken away and disposed of legally rather than left in a skip on your drive. This is included as part of the clean-up at the end of the job.
