What's included when we fit your quartz worktop

What's Included When We Fit Your Quartz Worktop

  • A free home visit where we bring quartz samples so you can check colour and pattern against your own kitchen lighting, not showroom lighting
  • Laser templating of the worktop area, including precise measurements around sinks, hobs and any awkward corners
  • Factory fabrication by stone masons, including sink and hob cut-outs and your chosen edge profile
  • Removal and legal disposal of your old worktop as part of the job
  • Reconnection of the sink and taps once the new worktop is fitted
  • Full installation and jointing of the worktop sections to a seamless finish
  • The 10-Year Material Guarantee and 2-Year Installation Warranty as standard on every quartz worktop we supply and fit

Not Included / Costed Separately

  • Fitting or commissioning a gas hob or range cooker -- this needs a Gas Safe registered engineer and is quoted and arranged as a separate job
  • New wiring for an induction hob or under-cabinet lighting -- our Part P registered electricians can do this, but it's priced as an extra, not bundled into the worktop price
  • Upgraded edge profiles such as bullnose or waterfall ends beyond the standard finish, which add to the per-metre cost
  • Making good walls, tiling or upstands beyond what's identified at your survey -- any extra prep found once the old worktop comes off is agreed with you before we proceed
  • Full cabinet or carcass replacement -- if your units need attention as well as the worktop, that's scoped and priced separately during the same visit

Quartz Compared With Granite and Laminate Worktops

Feature Quartz Granite Laminate
Sealing Never needed -- non-porous surface Needs sealing periodically to guard against staining No sealing needed, but water getting under the edges can cause swelling over time
Scratch and heat resistance Very scratch-resistant; use a trivet for hot pans, as sudden heat can still cause thermal shock Very heat-resistant and naturally hard-wearing More easily scratched and scorched than stone surfaces
Pattern and colour Consistent pattern from slab to slab, dozens of colours available Natural veining -- no two slabs are identical Printed pattern, consistent but can look less natural up close
Typical fitting time Usually a single day once templating and fabrication are done Similar to quartz -- templated, factory-cut, then fitted Often quicker, as it's frequently supplied pre-cut or trimmed on site
Guarantee with us 10-Year Material Guarantee, 2-Year Installation Warranty Confirmed at your free consultation Confirmed at your free consultation

Why We Order Quartz as a Matched Run, Not Slab by Slab

Quartz is manufactured in production batches, and two slabs cut from different batches of the same colour name can still read slightly differently under kitchen lighting -- a shade warmer, a fleck pattern a touch denser or sparser. On a job that covers a full worktop run plus an island or breakfast bar, we order every slab needed from the same batch number, confirmed before fabrication starts, so a join between two pieces doesn't turn into a visible line where the colour shifts. The same laser template that sets out the sink and hob cut-outs also decides where any unavoidable joint sits -- kept away from the sink bowl and hob opening, where the material takes the most stress, and out of the direct sightline from the kitchen doorway wherever the layout allows it.

On peninsulas and breakfast bars with an overhang past the cabinet edge, our fitters check whether the depth needs a hidden steel or plywood support bracket underneath before the slab goes on, because quartz is rigid and heavy enough that an unsupported overhang can flex and crack months later rather than showing a problem on fitting day. Reconnecting the sink and taps afterwards is handled by our own plumbers, qualified to NVQ Level 2 and City & Guilds standard, so that's finished in the same visit rather than left as a second job for someone else. That level of detail is what the 10-Year Material Guarantee and 2-Year Installation Warranty on every quartz worktop we fit is actually covering. Because we template and fit quartz as an independent specialist as well as through our own kitchen projects, it doesn't matter whether your units came from us, from Howdens, Wren Kitchens or Magnet -- the same crew handles the batch matching, the fabrication and the fit.

Getting a Rigid Quartz Slab Into Your Kitchen, Wherever You Are in Derbyshire

Quartz doesn't arrive as a flexible sheet that can be bent round a doorframe -- it's a rigid, heavy slab, fabricated to size at our workshop and carried in whole on fitting day, so access matters just as much as the template measurements. In Derby's Victorian terraces around Pear Tree, Normanton and Rose Hill, that usually means checking hallway widths and stair turns at the survey stage, not discovering a problem when the slab turns up. Newer estates such as Chellaston, Oakwood and Mickleover tend to have wider doorways but often a galley or peninsula layout, where the template has to allow for two people carrying a full-length piece round a tight corner without resting it against a cabinet edge on the way. Beyond the city we template and fit regularly in Chesterfield, Long Eaton, Belper, Ilkeston, Heanor, Alfreton, Swadlincote, Ripley, Duffield, Dronfield and into Nottingham.

In the stone-built cottages and converted barns around Matlock, Wirksworth, Bakewell and Buxton, narrow original doorways and low ceiling beams come up often enough that we ask about access -- door widths, staircases, whether a slab needs to go in through a window -- before we fabricate the worktop, not after it's been cut to a size that won't fit through the front door.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Are Quartz Worktops?

Quartz worktops are engineered stone surfaces made from around 90–95% crushed natural quartz crystals, bonded together with polymer resins and pigments. The result is a surface that's harder and more consistent than many natural stones — and it comes in a huge range of colours and patterns.

20mm or 30mm Quartz Worktop — Which Should You Choose?

Both thicknesses have their place and the right choice depends on your kitchen style, cabinet design and budget.

How much do quartz worktops cost in Derby?

Quartz worktop prices vary depending on the size of your kitchen, the material you choose, edge profiles, and whether sink or hob cut-outs are needed. As a rough guide, UK averages sit around £375 per square metre including installation — so expect to budget somewhere between £1,125 for a small kitchen and £3,375+ for a larger one. The best way to get an accurate price is to book your free consultation and we'll give you a proper, itemised quote with no hidden extras.

How long does it take to fit a quartz worktop?

For most Derby kitchens, the installation itself can be completed in a single day once the templating and fabrication are done. Bigger kitchens or more complex layouts occasionally take two days. We'll be clear about timescales from the start.

Do quartz worktops need sealing?

No — and that's one of the biggest advantages of quartz over natural stone. Because quartz is non-porous, it doesn't absorb liquids and doesn't need sealing. Ever. That makes it much lower maintenance than granite or marble.

Can you put hot pans on quartz worktops?

Quartz is heat-resistant but not heatproof. You should always use a trivet or heat pad rather than placing hot pans directly on the surface. Sudden temperature changes (thermal shock) can cause damage. It's a simple habit to get into and it'll keep your worktop looking great for years.

Can a knife scratch quartz?

Quartz is very scratch-resistant — it's one of the hardest worktop materials available. That said, it's not completely scratch-proof, so we'd always recommend using a chopping board. This also keeps your knives sharper for longer, which is an added bonus.

Are quartz worktops better than granite?

It depends on what matters most to you. Quartz doesn't need sealing, comes in more consistent colours and patterns, and is easier to maintain day-to-day. Granite is a natural stone with unique markings and is extremely durable. Both are excellent choices. Our team can help you weigh up the pros and cons for your specific kitchen during your free consultation.

What lasts longer — quartz or granite?

Both are very long-lasting materials. Quartz has a slight edge in everyday practicality because it's non-porous and doesn't need sealing. Looked after properly, a well-fitted quartz worktop can last the entire lifetime of your kitchen.

Is quartz a good choice for a busy family kitchen?

Yes — genuinely one of the best. It's non-porous so bacteria can't get a foothold, it resists the stains that come with family cooking, and cleaning it is as simple as a wipe with soapy water. It's tough enough for daily family life and it still looks great years later.

Can I see samples before I decide?

Yes, as we bring a selection of samples to your home during the free consultation so you can compare colours and textures under your actual kitchen lighting. This is the best way to make your decision — not looking at pictures on a screen or in a showroom with completely different lighting.
