What Is a Corian Worktop?

Corian is a solid surface material made from a mix of natural minerals and acrylic resin. It was first developed by DuPont back in 1967 and has been a go-to choice for homeowners and kitchen designers ever since.

Unlike natural stone, Corian isn't porous. That means liquids don't soak in, stains don't take hold, and bacteria can't breed on the surface. It's also 100% antibacterial and 100% recyclable — which matters to a lot of the homeowners we speak to these days.

The big thing people notice straightaway is the seamless joins. Because Corian can be bonded together using a colour-matched adhesive, you don't get those visible lines and edges you see on laminate or granite worktops. It just looks smooth, clean, and really professionally finished.

Why Choose Corian Over Other Worktop Materials?

It's a fair question — especially when you're weighing it up against granite, quartz, or laminate. Here's how Corian compares in the real world:
  • Vs. Granite: Granite is beautiful but it can chip at the edges and needs sealing to stay stain-resistant. Corian doesn't. It can also be repaired on-site if it gets scratched or burned — something you can't do with granite.
  • Vs. Quartz: Quartz is tough, but it comes with visible joins and can't be thermoformed into unusual shapes. Corian gives designers a lot more freedom.
  • Vs. Laminate: Laminate is cheap upfront but it swells near sinks, edges lift over time, and it doesn't look premium. Corian holds up far better and actually adds value to your home.
  • Vs. Dekton: Dekton is incredibly hard but less forgiving if cracked — and much harder to repair. Corian scratches more easily than Dekton, but any marks can be sanded straight out.

The Main Benefits of Corian Worktops

Seamless, Joint-Free Finish

This is probably the biggest selling point. Corian pieces are bonded together so that joins are virtually invisible. You get one flowing surface, no gaps for food or grease to collect in, and a look that feels genuinely high-end.

Repairable — Unlike Most Other Materials

One of the things we always tell people in our consultations: if Corian gets scratched or marked, it can be sanded and polished back to its original condition. You can't say that about granite or quartz. For a busy family kitchen in somewhere like Beeston or Stapleford, that's a real practical advantage.

Non-Porous and Hygienic

No joints, no pores, no places for bacteria to hide. That makes Corian one of the most hygienic worktop surfaces available — which is exactly why it's also widely used in commercial and healthcare environments.

Over 100 Colours and Finishes

From clean whites and warm neutrals to deeper tones and stone-effect patterns, the colour range is genuinely impressive. Some of our most popular choices in the Derby and Nottingham area at the moment include whites, concretes, and the mid-grey tones — though we're seeing more people go bold with darker shades for island units.

Integrated Sinks

You can have a Corian sink moulded directly into your worktop. No rim, no join, no silicone bead turning black after six months. Just a clean, continuous surface from worktop to sink bowl. It looks stunning and it's very easy to wipe down.

Environmentally Friendly

Corian is manufactured responsibly, contains recycled content, and — because it lasts so long and is repairable rather than replaceable — generates far less waste over time than cheaper worktop options.

Guaranteed Peace of Mind

Every Corian worktop we supply and fit comes with a 10-Year material guarantee and our own 2-Year Workmanship Warranty. That means you're covered on the product itself and on the quality of our installation. Not many kitchen fitters in the Derby and Nottingham area offer both — and we think it matters. It's your kitchen, it's a significant investment, and you deserve to know it's protected.

How Much Do Corian Worktops Cost in Derby and Nottingham?

We're going to be straight with you here because we think vague pricing is frustrating.
Corian worktop costs typically range from £400 to £625 per square metre for the material. A professionally installed Corian worktop for an average kitchen (around 3m²) usually works out at around £1,650 to £2,000 all in — including templating, fabrication, and fitting.

The total cost depends on:
  • The size and shape of your kitchen layout
  • The colour and finish you choose (some premium shades cost more)
  • Cutouts needed for your sink or hob
  • Whether you want integrated Corian sinks, upstands, or splashbacks
  • Complexity of the job (islands, peninsulas, unusual angles)
Labour in the Derby and Nottingham area tends to be more competitive than in London or the South East, which works in your favour.
It's also worth factoring in what you're getting for your money.

Every worktop we supply comes with a 10-Year material guarantee, and our installation work is covered by a 2-Year Workmanship Warranty.

When you're spending £1,650 to £2,000 on a fitted worktop, knowing it's fully protected front to back makes a real difference to how you think about the investment.

We'll give you a full, honest quote during your free consultation — no hidden charges added on at the end, no nasty surprises. That's just how we work.

Our Corian Worktop Installation Process

Step 1 — Free Home Consultation

We come to you. We look at the space, talk through your ideas, discuss your budget, and give you our honest opinion on what's going to work. No pushy sales pitch. If Corian isn't the right choice for your kitchen, we'll tell you that too.

Step 2 — Precise Templating

This is where the attention to detail really matters. Our fitter visits your home and takes exact measurements using laser templating technology — down to the nearest millimetre. Every cutout for your sink, hob, or tap is carefully marked at this stage. Get this wrong and nothing fits properly. We don't cut corners here.

Step 3 — Factory Fabrication

Your Corian worktop is cut, shaped, and finished at our fabrication facility. CNC machines are used for precision cutting, and our team hand-finishes every piece before it leaves. Edge profiles, sink bowls, and any bespoke design details are all done at this stage.

Step 4 — Professional Installation

Our fitters arrive, fit your new worktop, bond any joins using colour-matched adhesive, and make sure everything is level, sealed, and finished properly. We clean up after ourselves — your kitchen is left ready to use.

Most Corian worktop installations take between one and two days depending on the size and complexity of the job.

Corian Worktop Care and Maintenance

One of the reasons people love Corian is how easy it is to look after day-to-day.

Daily cleaning: A damp cloth with a mild household cleaner is all you need. Avoid bleach-based products and abrasive scouring pads as these can dull the surface over time.

Stubborn stains: A non-abrasive cleaner like Soft Scrub works well. Apply, leave for a minute, then rinse off and wipe dry.

Scratches and scorch marks: Light scratches can be buffed out with a Scotch-Brite pad and mild cleaner using circular motions. Deeper scratches can be sanded with fine-grade sandpaper, then buffed back to the original finish. For anything more serious, give us a call — Corian is always repairable.

One important note: don't put hot pans directly onto Corian. Use a trivet or heat pad. Corian handles moderate heat well but direct contact from a very hot pan can cause thermal damage.

Testimonials From Our Previous Clients

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Really happy with how it turned out. We wanted to get rid of our old laminate which was in a right state near the sink and went for Corian in a light grey. Wasn't sure what to expect but Justin the bloke who came to measure up was dead thorough, checked everything twice and pointed out a couple of things we hadn't even considered. Looks loads better than we imagined to be honest. Joins around the sink are spot on, you can't see them at all. Deffo recommend." Sarah M — West Bridgford, NG2

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Got the worktop and the integrated sink done at the same time and its made such a difference. The old silicone round the sink was minging and always looked grubby no matter how much you cleaned it. Now its just one flat surface, dead easy to wipe down. The two lads that came were on time, got on with it and didn't leave a load of mess. Done in about a day and half. Good value for what you get." Dave & Karen T — Beeston, NG9

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "I'll be honest i nearly went with quartz because it seemed cheaper but glad i didn't. When i spoke to them they took the time to explain the difference properly and why Corian would work better for what we had in mind, especially round the island. Didn't feel like they were just trying to sell me something. The waterfall edge on the island came out amazing, everyone who comes round comments on it. Really pleased i went with them." Julie R — Ilkeston, DE7

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "This is the third time ive used these now. First two times was the full kitchen, this time just needed the utility room worktop replacing to match. Wasn't sure they'd be able to get the colour spot on after two years but they did, looks like it was all done together. Says a lot that i keep going back. Straightforward company, do what they say they will." Pete W — Long Eaton, NG10

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "We had a funny shaped kitchen so wasn't sure how it would go, tight corner and the hob cutout had to be exact. The guy who came to template it spent ages getting it right which i appreciated. When it was fitted it went in first time no problems. No mess when they left either which is always a bonus! Feels reassuring having the 10 year guarantee as well, makes you feel like they stand behind what they do." Anita B — Arnold, NG5

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Got about 4 or 5 quotes and these were by far the quickest to get back to me with a proper price, not just a vague estimate. Price was fair and there was nothing added on at the end which i half expected there to be if im honest. We went for a concrete look finish and it looks unreal, had so many people ask about it. Would use again no question." Mark & Louise H — Stapleford, NG9

Frequently Asked Questions about Corian Kitchen Worktops And Countertops

Is Corian worth the money?

For most homeowners, yes. The upfront cost is higher than laminate, but Corian lasts significantly longer, looks far better, and can be repaired rather than replaced. Over 10 or 15 years, it usually works out better value than cheaper alternatives that need replacing.

Are your Corian worktops guaranteed?

Yes. Every Corian worktop we supply comes with a 10-Year material guarantee as standard. On top of that, all our installation work is covered by a 2-Year Workmanship Warranty. So whether it's a product issue or a fitting issue, you're covered either way. Just give us a call on 01332-529933 and we'll sort it.

How long do Corian worktops last?

With proper care, Corian worktops can last 20 years or more. They're a long-term investment in your kitchen, not a quick fix.

Can Corian worktops be repaired?

Yes — and this is one of the things that makes Corian stand out. Scratches, minor burns and surface damage can nearly always be sanded and polished back to as-new condition. This can often be done on-site without the worktop needing to be removed.

Are Corian worktops good for the environment?

Corian worktops are environmentally friendly as they are manufactured in a way that reduces waste and energy consumption. Also, their long lifespan and possibility to repair rather than replace makes them a sustainable choice.

Can Corian worktops be recycled?

Yes, Corian worktops can be recycled. If you want to replace your old Corian worktop, it can be cut down and repurposed for other uses.

Is Corian the same as a solid surface worktop?

Corian is a brand name — it's one of the best-known solid surface products on the market. Other solid surface brands include Hi-Macs, Hanex, Staron, Minerva, and Tristone. They all work on the same principle but Corian is generally considered the market leader.

Are Corian worktops safe for food preparation?

Yes they are, Corian worktops are nonporous and resist the growth of mould, mildew, and bacteria, making them safe for food preparation.

Can Corian worktops resist chemical products?

Corian worktops resist most household chemicals, but strong chemicals or solvents can cause damage. Always check the cleaning product manufacturer’s recommendations before use.

Can Corian worktops be fitted around a kitchen island?

Because Corian can be thermoformed and bonded invisibly, it works brilliantly on islands — including waterfall edges where the worktop drops down the side of the unit. It looks seriously good done well.

Can you put a sink into a Corian worktop?

Yes. Integrated Corian sinks are one of the most popular options we fit. The sink bowl is formed from the same material as the worktop, bonded in seamlessly so there's no rim or join. It looks great and it's very practical.
